On day 2, Judge Reinholtsen went over the 18 defense motions from yesterday and then the motions in limine presented by the People were discussed today. The jury selection process will start tomorrow, with some individual jurors being questioned, either those that counsel wish to question further or those that have indicated that they wish to speak to the Judge and attorneys confidentially.
Then the jury selection process for jurors and alternates will begin. There really is not much to report on until the jury is selected and opening statements are given. I will be there in court each day just to observe the process and report if anything develops.
There was some discussion today about certain motions being discussed confidentially and what individual jurors will be questioned privately. For certain motions which were discussed today, the courtroom was closed so that the evidentiary issues being discussed would not be reported and affect the potential jury pool.
Judge Reinholtsen said that individual jurors who had requested confidentiality will have a closed courtroom. For the rest, it will be an open courtroom.
Today was the first day, a family member was present. One of the motions that was discussed was that while people could wear buttons that were made in support of a victim, the jury would be admonished by the Judge that this is not evidence of guilt or innocence.
