Mr. Woolley called Mr. Wheetley "a stalwart of Arcata."
"I have known Mark since the 70s as a friend and colleague," said Mr. Woolley. He spoke of the programs and projects they worked on together in the 70s and 80s.
Ms. Scott said she was at the announcement as a individual supporter, not as a representative of the Arcata Chamber.
Mr. Mendoza said that for four terms he worked "side by side with Mark" on difficult situations, complex issues and hum drum issues. "He has been a rock for the City of Arcata," said Mr. Mendoza "I hate to see him leave the Council but the County also needs him. He does not take the short cut and takes time and always makes sound decisions."
After being introduced by John Woolley and remarks from Randy Mendoza and Sandy Scott, Mr. Wheetley introduced his daughter Caitlyn and her friend Hope, his brother Greg and Lynette Mullen who he called "the beautiful woman in my life". His campaign team which includes Caterina Lewis-Perry, Michael Kime, Wendy Rowan and Joel Canzoneri.
"It has been an honor" serving the City of Arcata said Mr. Wheetley. He is serving his fourth term; three of those as Mayor. Among his accomplishments he listed public safety, housing and healthy needs.
He is on the Board of Directors for the League of Cities, has vast experience working on local, tribal and coastal community issues.
"What do I bring to the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors?"
"Humboldt County works best when the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors work best, " said Mr. Wheetley. He cited his leadership experience, collaborative partner style and a commitment to go out and "meet with 3rd District constituents to learn and about their needs"
