EPD tips for dealing with door to door solicitation

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Subject: Door-to-Door Peddling and Solicitation

Due to a recent increase in complaints regarding aggressive and/or suspicious door-to-door peddling and solicitation, the Eureka Police Department would like to offer the following safety tips:
  1. Ask to see a City of Eureka business license. The City of Eureka Municipal Code requires all peddlers and solicitors to have a city business license that is approved by the Eureka Police Department.  The license allows peddlers and solicitors to work between the hours of 8:00am and 8:00pm.
  2. Protect Yourself.  Do not let anyone into your home.  Do not give out personal information.  Research the company before signing up for any service(s) or providing any monies, checks, or credit card information.
  3. Call Eureka Police (707)441-4060.  If a door-to-door peddler or solicitor is suspicious, aggressive, or does not have a business license, get a good description of the person and their vehicle (if applicable) and call the Eureka Police Department.
