As a local business consultant who also blogs, where should I be on a rainy Monday night when the Arcata Economic Development Center is hosting a spotlight on small businesses?
Tempting as it was to upload the next press release, I decided to check out the wonderful Arcata businesses showcased at the Arcata Theatre Lounge. Music is being provided by Tumbleweeds. Food samples from Masaki's Mongolian Grill, Diane's Sweet Heat, Humboldt Hot Sauce and my new favorite Celebrations Tamales and Redwood Organics. And you can wash all this down with your favorite local brew.
Rex Bohn, Mike Newman, Marian Brady, Michael Winkler, Gregg Foster, Angeline Schwab were only some of a room packed of attendees.
A great idea, just to bad Arcata has chased off the people with the money to support the arcata business.used to love shopping and dining in Arcata but when they went on a all out assault on people who depend on the grow industry. i will nor will atleast close to a 1000 people i know spend any money in arcata. The council and the city made it clear they do not want money derived form growing. I dont grow but depend on the growers for my work. stinks to punish arcata buisness for the city's stance but it is the only way. If the arcata business moves to a friendlt to the grower city like mac town or eureka then they will be supported but for anyone thinking of openning a business in arcata you should think again. because arcata has made it very cleat they dont want grow money, problem with that is. grow money is the only money in this county so by doing so they have chased of the people who would have supported arcata shop keepers. And you might say this isnt true but the city's tax revenue will prove alot of people no longer by goods in Arcata. i havnt bought gas in or any products in Arcata since they launched the assault on growers.Notice all the houses for rent signs.or when they passed the law there 600 house over the limit now only 90.those 510 houses and there money has left arcata and there friends in other towns no longer contribute to the tax revenue of arcata.
