Loleta Cheese Factory Chapter 11 fails, conversion into Chapter 7, assets to be liquidated for $50,000
Loleta Cheese Factory which had filed for Chapter 11, failed in their efforts. Now, the bankruptcy is in the process of being converted to Chapter 7 and all their assets will be liquidated for $50,000.
Not good news, sorry to hear about it. Other cheese companies also stressed, too much milk so it's being turned into cheese and sold at discount prices. That's good for the consumer right now, but not in the long run. I was unhappy but not surprised when I read that Cowgirl Creamery (Point Reyes) was sold to a Swiss company...and then found out the same company bought Arcata's Cypress Grove Chevre....giving stability to the smaller producers. Sorry a good company couldn't be found to take on Loleta Cheese Factory. I wish the family the very best.

The $50,000 figure is the amount offered by their daughter's boyfriend from the bay area to keep the business.
ReplyDeleteThe Loleta Cheese Factory is part of Humboldt's history. I hope that it can stay in the family.
