Another crash at the fatal 7 th and I intersection in Eureka
That corner is cursed. According to PIO Brittany Powell, no fatalities and no injuries reported as of yet. I' m here at the scene of the accident. Officer Crinch confirmed no injuries or fatalities. They are still investigating.
Apparently no one is aware the County to mitigate the closure of J Street between Fourth and Fifth Streets was required to construct traffic signals at 4th and 5th Streets at K Streets. Numerous collisions of vehicles with pedestrians have occurred at those intersections including one death in June of 2012. The Eureka City Council, in their Resolution 94-35 to vacate or abandon J Street between Fourth and Fifth Streets conditioned the vacation/abandonment for the County to install the traffic signals and to have them installed no later than November of 1996. Well, we all know how that is working out.
Jack, traffic signals and laws only work if people follow them. From what I saw, someone was driving the wrong way on 7th or turned on I impatiently with complete disregard to his surroundings.
