Supervisor Bass calls me out during BOS meeting and Supervisor Lovelace shows utter contempt for public comment

Supervisor Mark Lovelace inserted politics into a discussion about compensation of Assistant County Counsel Carolyn Ruth because he didn't get his way. He was disrespectful after public comment when public cannot respond. His comment was directed to me but he did not mention me by name,

Supervisor Virginia Bass said "some people are politicizing this" and agreed with Supervisor Lovelace and said she disagreed with my post and that I didn't present both parts of the issue. This, after I respected her wish not to go on record, about an email she sent me over the weekend. Can't present two sides of the issue when one party forces you into silence.

I have a post from 2 Supervisors and another community member voicing concerns.

I have supported Virginia since 2010 and been one of her most vocal supporters. After the meeting, a few people felt "she threw me under the bus." In a very public way.

Disagreeing is okay, singling out someone you call a friend and who has supported you for the past 4 years is not okay.

Welcome to Humboldt County politics where friendship and alliances can and are sacrificed for political expediency.

Some people make a big deal about my supporting certain candidates and political leanings, yet I have done several posts and given public information questioning the very same people.

Mark, hissy fits aren't new for you. If you are going to use your time to attack public comment, give us a chance to respond. How ironic that today Mark who slapped Virginia and who I gave a "slap down" and got information backing Virginia's side was on the same side with Virginia today. Both showed complete disrespect for me and other public commenters.

Thank you Supervisor Ryan Sundberg and Supervisor Estelle Fennell for bringing back civility and calling out the personal attacks.

  1. There are no friends in politics.

It is dangerous to treat political contacts as friends... as sadly you learned today.

I think it is good to be partisan... I have no problem with that. Just don't expect that the people you stand up for will stand up for you.

    1. What is dangerous MOLA is the number of two-faced people in Humboldt County who purport to be Virginia's friends or mine and will take advantage of both our public comments.

What is dangerous is certain "media" that claims to be for the people but never investigates or reports information that the public needs to know.

Mark took what was a difficult situation where passions were strong and stood up, not for taxpayers, not for all County employees but, for his agenda and his backers and "riled people up" as stated during the meeting.

    2. Mr. Chiv... this is the dangerous part of "Making a Difference." People who say they are your friends turn on you because they don't want the difference you called for. That's why so few people actually bother to try to "Make a Difference."

The dangers I spoke of are of the personal level. We all already know the two faced nature of people who gather around the feeding trough of government.

But it is not wise to take personally what someone in the political realm says about you... no more than it isn't wise to take personally anything anyone says in the blogosphere.

      That's all I meant.

    3. MOLA, appreciate your comment as always but the two faced comment was not about my friends or the government but a more general comment.

I hurt my head when I fell over in shock reading your comment. But I'm okay now.

  2. It should be neither partisan nor political to say that if you want to retain Ms. Ruth after she quits, she should be paid at the same rate she rd'd while she was in the position. Why is fiscal responsibility partisan? Doesn't speak very well for one side, if so. As to whether she should be retained...
