A local resident wanted to give a shout-out to Redwood Pals Rescue.
The tipster said that this is a three person outfit and a small network of volunteers that works with the Humboldt County Animal Shelter. "One of the outreach services they provided was, going down to Devil's Playground and vaccinating people's dogs, and encouraging people who were receptive to have the dogs spayed or neutered (at no cost). They also helped people get out of the marsh with their animals during this last push to clear the marsh. No grand-standing, no obstruction, just a bunch of long days in a very dispiriting atmosphere. Jim, Jeanne, and Mara are the kind of people every community should be blessed to have, and I guess I just wanted to let you know that there were some activists down there, quietly doing good for all of us."

From their site:
Redwood Pals Rescue is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to support rescue and adoption efforts of animals that are at risk in the Humboldt County Animal Shelter in addition to working to improve the quality of their lives....We pay to take the rescue and shelter dogs to much-needed training each week, pay for boarding when we have more dogs that need rescuing than we have space in foster homes, pay the balance on spay and neutering when the grants run out, pay medical costs for our rescue dogs, pay for food when our generous foster families are tapped out, pay for leashes and treats when the shelter runs low and all the miscellaneous items that give our rescue and shelter animals a better life.
What great people and what wonderful work they seem to be doing. And thank you for sharing the story.
