Dorothy Ulrich's mother leaves courtroom, many family and supporters cover eyes as graphic bloody photos of Hoopa crime scene are shown to Warren jury

The second witness this morning was former HCSO Evidence Technician Karen Quenell. Ms. Quenell was still being questioned by Mr. Sequeira when the morning court session ended.

Ms. Quenell had assisted CHP with taking photos and locating some items from the hit and run on Myrtle Avenue, which resulted in the death of Suzanne Seemann.

Later that day she was the evidence tech to process the scene and assist the Deputy Coroner in removing Dorothy Ulrich's body.

As crime scene photos she took flashed on the computer screen, absent from the courtroom was Dorothy Ulrich's mother, Mrs. Shirley Ortega. Before they were shown, Mr. Paul Sequeira looked over at her. Other Ulrich family members that stayed in the courtroom, Hank Seemann, and some other supporters put their head down as graphic bloody photos of Dorothy Ulrich lying on the floor. With other photos, some of them covered their mouth. A gentleman, I believe to be Mrs. Ortega's brother-in-law held his wife hand as she looked away from the projector screen and glared at Jason Warren.'

While testimony was going on and photos were being shown, Warren sat nonchalant and scribbled on a note pad showing no reaction.

Photos of the REVO surveillance monitor of the security system in Dorothy Ulrich's house, with "apparent blood stain" was pointed out by Ms. Quenell. You could see at least three stains starting from the lower center going up towards the upper right side of the monitor.

The DVR portion was taken out and viewed by several multi-agency law enforcement personnnel on the scene which included HCSO, Tribal Officers and State Patrol. Ms. Quenell testified "We awere trying to determine the person seen on the video."

The most graphic photos were of Dorothy Ulrich lying on the floor, her head matted in a pool of blood, with smears and blood spatter on the box next to her. Even through the thick blood on her arms, you could see slashes.

The broken blue lanyard that was photographed next to her body, identified by her husband, was then taken out of the evidence box by Quenell and shown again to the jury.

Boxes, a broken milk crate, a suitcase next to Dorothy Ulrich's body splattered with blood and tufts of hair that Ms. Quennell said "appeared to be sheared" were shown. Photos of a sword/dagger and another sword found in the living room and a bedroom were also shown. The sword, part of the set identified by Timothy Ulrich, Dorothy Ulrich's husband was identified again by Quenell.

Ms. Quenell testified that when the Deputy Coroner arrived, a preliminary examination at the crime scene showed "stab wounds on the back."

There was a photo of the ceiling in the living room with blood spatter and some spatter on top of the front door, approximately two feet from where Dorothy Ulrich's body was found.
