I just spoke with Angeloff and he said, "I could not get the vote out. I will keep moving forward to support economic development in Humboldt County."

He added that he agrees with Hank Sims take on election night that he was not able to overcome Greg Dale's popularity and that this election was not about the issues.

  3. John: I am kind of surprised you didn’t have a view on this since you have been involved in multiple election cycles. In a general election you can get away with platitudes because of the uneducated or less informed voters that get drawn into the election hype. But during off year special district elections it is all about the “message.” With 79% of the voters in the in the 2nd and 68% of the voters in the 5th in this election actually absentee voters, who are generally the well informed voters, the message, not the person is very important. And if you check out the actual final turnout you will see interest in the 2nd and 5th district was considerably higher than the rest of the county. Both challengers outspent and out campaigned the incumbents, but their messages fell short. And both challengers had ample press coverage and ran efficient campaigns. (I really like both Nick and Susan and applaud them for their efforts. I have fallen short myself when I ran for 4th District County Supervisor so I know how it feels.)
The Humboldt Bay Harbor District has been doing good things for the public and I am honored to be part of a solid “team.” We might not always agree with each other but we respect each other enough to be effective.

  4. Richard, you know elections are not over until the final votes are in and I never make predictions. I have not been as involved in politics lately since my focus has been on my site and primarily court coverage. I appreciate your insights.
