Firpo facebook likes brouhaha much ado about nothing

I was approached by someone to look into this and I did. This is not news any more than previous blog items about other candidates' facebook likes.

Likes do not determine elections, voters do. In this instance, I weighed the source and investigated the claim. On Firpo's page under likes I saw local people unless Hank Sims has dual residence. What I saw was Bangladesh as the most popular city talking about this page. Huge leap from facebook which we all know is the most userfriendly and trustworthy (NOT) social media outlet. People talking about a page does not mean they are the same who like a page.

I have not endorsed anyone, I can tell you I am considering more than 1 candidate. My perspective on the DA's race is different because I know all 4, I have worked on winning campaigns, I do have an inside perspective on all the political and inside court crowd and I have the integrity not to print stuff even when I have what seems like a scoop.

I will be printing my analysis of the DA's race soon and I am not waiting like others to see who is safely ahead. I dont gain anything by backing anyone.

Instead of frivolous posts like facebook likes, those who claim to be media need to get relevant information to the public not sensational headlines to drive up statistics.

  1. Okay, John. Explain it, then. Why would Firpo be getting any activity at all in Dhaka, Bangladesh -- let alone more than anywhere else?

  2. Ryan I dont work on or speak for the Firpo campaign. Nor do I have the time to look into technicalties of why facebook is so messed up. Especially as I explained that to me this is a non issue. I know who approached me. I told the person that information would be confidential. You did this post a day later when the outcome was not what was expected. Is Lost Coast now doing the work for 1 candidate's campaign over the other? Now that is news.

People told me they will run clean campaigns. If so, they need to reconsider their campaign team members and supporters. And some of our local media needs not be biased which they tend to be when covering local campaigns.

  3. Wait. In your post you say that you did look into it because someone asked you to. Now you say you don't have time and it's a non issue. When did you change your mind? Also, where do you get your scoops?

    1. Ryan looking into it is what I originally said. I dont have time to explain wht facebook statistics or insights are what they are. Especially since I dont owe you that favor for a post you printed. You are trying to divert the conversation . Did you check anything besides facebook? I get my scoops by my journalist background of 30 years and relationships built on trust. I dont get my regurgitated press releases from a boss who owns a radio station or your former boss who uses her newspaper to further her personal agenda.

Do you want to answer who tipped you? Do you want to tell me who all your sources are?

I will not engage you anymore or anyone else about me. Stick to the topic. I have nothing against you Ryan but you made this personal.

Dont challenge my integrity or insinuate stuff. Lost Coast and other media take paid ads around election time so I would urge the public to see if they give all candidates equal coverage.

The only election scandal here, another salacious post, is what these posts have done to LOCO's ratings?

  4. Of the candidate choices, Ms. Firpo was (and perhaps still may be a candidate I will consider. The LoCo report does raise concerns about her choice of managers when anyone who bothers to read any form of local media knows that Mr. Salzman is NOT well thought of Add to that the potential that someone in her corner may have had her social-media profile cosmetically enhanced to make her appear popular and it just make me feel comfortable. It may be a non-issue that can be attributed to her lack of experience in politics (which I find appealing) but this is not starting out very well. It's still not too late for her to start her cabinet from scratch so we can hear about the issues.

    1. If you read Lost Coast's coverage you should have read that Salzman is not her campaign manager. Whether he is involved or to what extent is something that will be seen when she makes her formal announcement.

What you should be focused on is why LOCO covered this and instead of taking responsibility for a sensational post they are trying to divert the conversation.

There are issues with every single candidate's team in every single race. One should do their best to make an informed decision.

Beachcomber if you want the truth go meet a candidate yourself. Balance

  5. Your conservative side is coming out in that response John. No need to be a dick.

  6. Dan every comment you leave on my blog has a personal insult towards me. I did not publish the past ones because you never comment about anything other than insulting me and all because I am conservative.

This is a free country and it does not say liberals only. Publish your own blog and there you don't get to dictate if anyone else can speak.

After this unless you comment on the topic and are respectful, go find another blog to vent your hate.

Note I did not say progressive or liberal because you are just someone who cannot tolerate the truth or a different opinion.
