Fannie Mae has eliminated its minimum credit score requirement of 620 for loans processed through its Desktop Underwriter system, effective November 16, 2025. The change means the DU system will now use its own automated risk assessment tool to evaluate a borrower's overall financial profile instead of using a hard score cutoff.
This decision is to expand access to mortgage credit for those with thin or non-traditional credit histories. However, a credit score is still required for the loan itself and underwriting aloan will incude other factors like debt ratios, down payments, and assets playing a key role.
