The former Sound Advice location on 303 5th street has been vacant for a while. I saw some work being done months ago. I just learned yesterday that the location will be a part of Security National's continued and established presence in Eureka and potential expansion. T SN spokesperson Gail Rymer confirmed, "Security National recently bought the 5th Street location and is currently rehabbing the building. Future use of the building has not been determined."
This continues SN's investment into Eureka and developing properties that are aesthetically pleasing, modern and used by people of all walks of life and political views.
I took photos of just some of the projects and development by SN and the Arkley family.
The information below is from the SN website.
The Arkley family are the largest private employers in Eureka for decades and do not depend on pot or grants for their existence. If you read me regularly; I have not been one sided in my coverage of the Arkleys like most local media.
I have always lived in Eureka. I am a Eureka person. Eureka has EPD. Eureka has more healthcare options. Being someone who is a city person; in Humboldt, Eureka is the closest to some city like environment in this county. Eureka is where majority of the tourists stay because majority of the hotels are in Eureka. I like the walkability of Eureka. The photographs posted above are places that appeal to tourists which equals money and they are the preference of anyone who has lived and traveled nationally and internationally. Besides SN developed properties, there is only one law firm and one hotel that gets raves from vistors.
You can agree or disagree with the Arkleys. That is freedom of opinion and speech but after 21 years of living here; there are the same few, political, snarky insiders who haunt online in the same few places that should get over their pettiness and express gratitude to SN for their contributions to Eureka. Or stop being hypocrites and not go to the Eureka Co-op, Starbucks on 5th, the Arkley Center for Performing Arts and the Sequoia Zoo.
Outside investments and tourists bring money and a large part of maintaining local jobs and income in Humboldt. The locals who have a problem with that because of personal biases whether it is about the Arkleys, me or anyone else can open their wallets and invest in this community for decades instead of running their mouth and fingers.
