"Stay back"

I can hear voices of a crowd and sirens. "Stay back" a loud male voice.

A lot of "fucking..." with a mix of female andmale voices from the direction of 5th Street and N. It is quieter now. There is a crowd from the protest near Dutch Bros drive thru.

"Fuck Donald Trump" and "Fuck the police" playing, smell of weed, nose rings galore

"Fuck Donald Trump" and "Fuck the police" playing, smell of weed, nose rings galore. It started out with 50 people, now about 100 here, with more arriving. The "Fuck Donald Trump" played a few times.

Signs overwhelmingly focus on black lives matter and denigrating the police. " All lives can't matter until black lives matter", "Fuck the police", "Police are a racist institution" and "No good cops, the bad ones are accountable..." then she put her sign down.

Target, CVS, Apple and Walmart have closed certain locations due to recent protests

Target, CVS, Apple and Walmart have all temporarily closed certain locations due to protests over the death of George Floyd. This is due to safety reasons.

Your police showed restraint, they got assaulted, community vandalized and Eureka City Council stays silent

There were no arrests yesterday. EPD with HCSO and CHP assisting them were assaulted, attacked and had their patrol cars vandalized. The community attacked and businesses were vandalized and some had to shut down for safety.

Yet, Eureka's Mayor and the Eureka City Council have not denounced the violence. The only media really providing coverage about the danger to the community were Nazy Javid and myself. The others could not ignore it but they downplayed it and left while protestors were swarming the street, blocking the traffic and attacking innocent people.

Many community members, including people of color have spoken up denouncing the violence. Many protestors, just like Occupy Eureka, egged on law enforcement.

There were very few peaceful protestors. If you don't want all protestors judged by the actions of others, why are you judging all law enforcement for the actions of one man?

Looks like my calling out the "macho" keyboard men hit a nerve

Since I am blocked and cannot respond to you, I will respond right here. You read my post. It prompted you to respond on my Facebook page, knowing full well I could not respond to you. With masks on, most of us don't recognize each other. The only thing on my mind last night was safety of my community and law enforcement.

So is it 3 p.m., 6 p.m., or whenever protestors feel like a repeat performance?

At 3 p.m. just a couple people setting up in front of the Courthouse.

Around 3:30 just a few more people.

Donn Peterson will be retiring from his position as Chief of Police at Humboldt State University effective May 31, 2020.

Women reporters have more guts then some of you "keyboard macho" braggards on Facebook

To all you " keyboard macho" Facebook braggards like Gene Bass and Jon Beck and a few others.

Where were you yesterday and last night to show your support for EPD, HCSO and this community? I was out there, other media, community members and business owners. Women tv reporters have more guts than you.

Supervisor Wilson, Councilmembers Arroyo and Castellano cleaning up damage from last night

Third District Supervisor Mike Wilson,Eureka Councilmembers Natalie Arroyo and Leslie Castellano and one other person cleaning up tags on the corner of 6th and H, across from Wells Fargo. They said they cleaned a few other areas.

She is wandering in the alley, where is she getting $2,000 from?

Heard a female voice in the alley behind the gas station on 5th and N. "Wait right here, I am going to pick up $2,000."

This is what months and months of lockdown and those who encourage lawlessness has created

This was under Humboldt Craigslist rants and raves. There is not a single Humboldt posting. The mentality is being displayed all over the country. Looting, vandalism, attacking the police, destroying businesses.

The Los Angeles Times had an article yesterday that the vandalism was destroying businesses owned by  immigrants and people of color.

Members of National Guard deployed to assist LA and neighboring counties

Governor Gavin Newsom has authorized assistance after a request from the city and county of Los Angeles, and proclaimed a state of emergency in Los Angeles County. California approved the city and county’s request to deploy members of the National Guard to assist Los Angeles and neighboring communities.

One of the protestors says they are coming back at 3 p.m.

Another protest planned tomorrow at 6 p.m. according to Humboldt Grassroots post. If these protestors are local, why is the event listed as 825 US 101? Locals know where the Courthouse is and the address is 825 Fifth Street.

I was just on 5th Street and there were some protestors leaving. They told an acquaintance, they are going to rest and be back at 3 p.m.

We are still under shelter in place. This was not a peaceful protest, it was disruptive and confrontational. Will we be under curfew?

Reports that two officers were assaulted and another police officer hit by a slingshot was reported by others. I do know that Sgt. Rabang's car window was smashed, vehicles were dented and the car spray painted with "pig."

Great Goods gas station closed because protestors were attacking cars with signs

I am posting videos from two readers on my page shortly. The gas station had to close down because protestors were attacking cars with signs. If things calm down, the gas station may reopen tonight.

8:50 p.m. The gas station is open again. About half an hour ago, I walked up near the Courthouse. Took video of protestors blocking traffic at 5th and I. There were two EPD patrol cars at the intersection of 5th and L that took off shortly after I took this photo.

While I was walking towards the Courthouse, a few people were leaving the protest. They were young, one looked like he was in high school. He was the only one with a mask on.

9:50: You can hear cars honking. Protestors cussing and yelling blocks away. There were several police cars near 5th Street and N.

Protest at Courthouse leads to 4th and 5th street being blocked

Eureka Police posted on Facebook that 4th and 5th streets are currently blocked between G and J streets due to a growing protest. Please avoid the area around the Courthouse. Southbound 101 is blocked prior to Eureka City Limits.

You can hear the protestors all the way on 6th and 7th street. Reports of people on Broadway and other locations. Photos with tags including "Fuck the police". Police cars vandalized. Plenty of protestors without masks.

Humboldt Grassroots posted on Facebook:

"We WILL be standing for Justice for George Floyd at 3pm today (Saturday) at the Humboldt County Courthouse!!! Spread the word to counter rumors to the contrary! We are NOT cancelling for any reason! Bring your rain gear and masks."

Two additional COVID 19 cases confirmed today

Humboldt County’s total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases is now 101 after two additional positive cases were confirmed today.

First, the PG & E blackouts, then COVID 19. Our local businesses, especially the restaurants need our support

Breakfast was my first choice now that some places offer dine in. I chose Kristina's. One big reason is because of their cleanliness and this was before the COVID 19 pandemic.

One new case of COVID 19 confirmed today

One new case of COVID-19 was confirmed today, bringing to 99 the total number of Humboldt County residents who have tested positive for the virus.

"Per your request, please find attached the resignation agreement between the City of Eureka and former City Manager Dean Lotter."

EPD is always busy and I compliment them on their prompt response

At 2:20,saw an EPD officer drive around City Hall. At 2:25 p.m one EPD officer was at 924 5th Street. Went in the back. I was near the Courthouse. A scanner log lists a call about tresspass around 2:11. Since the officer was gone in a few minutes Between coverage and times I have had to call EPD, my observation is their response time is excellent.

Four deputies had to restrain Wesley Starritt while his arraignment was going on

I already posted earlier in detail the charges for Wesley Staritt's two new cases filed today. That post is linked below. He also had two 2018 probation cases on calendar today.

Starritt kept talking. Hard to hear but he said "wtf" at one point and "let me out."

“I’m excited the Eureka Veterans Hall is again open to the community with new features and safety improvements."

Following an extensive planning and construction process, the county has recently completed seismic repair and renovation work at the historic Eureka Veterans Hall done in response earthquake damage impacted the building. To celebrate, the county has created a virtual tour of the facility on the county website so the community can experience the building’s new features and see the work that has been completed.

Second employee terminated at Hensel's, similar text responses and involves medical issues

On April 20, I did a post about Hensel's Hardware. Now another employee has been let go and the text messages from Ceva Courtemanche seem to have some standard responses. Another employee contacted me yesterday. She sent me a Facebook message and reiterated some of the same information.

So is a free society only for some and selective enforcement only for businesses and when convenient?

In a video where Sheriff Honsal answered questions from the media, he said hotels in some areas are allowing people from out of the area to stay for a night. People traveling on state highways need to rest and Sheriff William Honsal said we don’t want people on the road driving when they are tired.

I recognized the apartment complex where the incident at 7th and N happened this afternoon. I remember it from watching the body cam footage in the David Kobak trial. I mentioned that in my post earlier.

"Mr. Ziegler is a problematic client."

Timothy Ziegler was ordered by the Court to be personally present at his next court date. Today's hearing was to see if Ziegler could retain private counsel. He cannot so the Public Defender will continue to represent him.

101 year old Alder Bay resident passed away last night

Was told a 101 year old female resident of Alder Bay passed away last night. I have contacted the County to confirm the death. Initially, I reached out to DHHS media who had sent an email out regarding the first COVID 19 death to media. That email was from Heather Muller.

I heard back from Heather Muller. "Hi, John. We are not able to confirm that for anyone. That is not information we have received. Thank you."

At 4:53 p.m. today, the press release indicated a third COVID 19 related death of an elderly Alder Bay resident.

Wesley Starritt to be arraigned tomorrow for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, prowling and violating probation

The jail log lists Wesley Starritt as being booked on May 26 and certain charges. I followed up with District Attorney Maggie Fleming regarding his arraignment this morning.

The jail log lists assault and battery but not prowling.

"EPD arrested Starritt at 1 am on 5/27.  He was booked for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, prowling and violating probation. He will be arraigned tomorrow for those charges and violations.

DA received the report but the complaint has not been officially filed yet.

EPD anticipates more charges against Starritt including arrest for the murder of Roger "Mitch" Clark. Starritt is on  "no bond" status.

"Frankly counsel, I'd like this kind of notice ahead of time. To do this last minute is disruptive."

Sentencing for convicted murderer Maxx Robison  was continued to May 28. It was continued again to June 1 because Robison wanted to be present in court. He made this request at the last minute after a brief, confidential phone call with his attorney. Livestream is muted and the attorney calls the inmate on a landline.
