Vehicle code stop leads to arrest for meth and firearm charges

On Jan. 30, 2022, at about 8:28 p.m., a Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputy on patrol in Willow Creek conducted a traffic stop for a vehicle code violation in the area of Country Club Drive.

Why was the woman with multiple warrants and probation violation cited and only the guy arrested?


Both are repeat offenders, both allegedly had evidence of drug sales, why is just the man arrested? Are we now citing and releasing people with multiple outstanding warrants?

Woman arrested for alleged prostitution last year now in custody for drug related charges for the third time

This is the third time Suntalena Downs has been arrested on drug charges. Last year; she was also arrested for alleged prostitution. Downs and Davis were arrested by the Humboldt County Drug Task Force today for transportation and possession of fentanyl, conspiracy as well probation violation.

Peter Cress appointed interim police chief at Cal Poly Humboldt


Today is Chief Anthony Morgan’s last day at Cal Poly Humboldt. Cal Poly Humboldt is initiating the search process for a replacement Chief of Police. Peter Cress has been appointed interim Chief of Police for the University Police Department. This appointment shall continue until a permanent replacement is selected.

I have done many posts on high risk parolee, peeping Tom and convicted sex offender Charles Flinn. He was one of the two people arrested by POP today. Flinn looks quite different from his previous booking photos. Flinn already had 32 cases in the local court system in July 2021 and this is not counting all his arrests since I did that one post.

Besides chasing repeat offenders and traffic stops, are HCSO deputies investigating and arresting any other criminals?

On Jan. 26, 2022, at about 8:37 p.m., a Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputy on patrol in the Eureka area observed a motorcycle traveling on 5th Street at a high rate of speed.

On Jan. 26, 2022, at about 6:39 p.m., a Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputy on patrol in the Eureka area observed a vehicle that had been reported stolen out of McKinleyville traveling on Broadway Street.

EPD assists HCSO in apprehending convicted criminal who fled from deputy

On Jan. 27, 2022, at about 3:42 a.m., a Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputy on patrol in the Eureka area attempted a traffic stop for a vehicle code violation near Broadway and Truesdale Streets. The vehicle failed to yield and fled from the deputy at a high rate of speed.

Resolving this case would certainly end the spotlight and scrutiny on HCSO, state agents and agencies and stop the exposure of the selective prosecution and targeting that is Humboldt injustice

 


I have asked Ray Christie twice prior to the January 7 hearing if the People had made an offer to resolve his 2018 case. He said no. Christie also told me that he would not take a plea deal.

All that has been happening in this case since arraignment is continuances

 


On 1/11, the  preliminary hearing for  alleged molestor Thomas Singleton was reset for 2/10 and a protective order was served. On 12/13/21, the setting of preliminary hearing had been continued by stipulation.

Alleged child molestor's preliminary continued but good cause denied for hypothetical petition

On 1/20 alleged child molestor Manuel Garcia Avalos's preliminary hearing was continued by stipulation to 2/14. Judge Kaleb Cockrum did not find good cause to continue based on hypothetical 827 petition. 

Avalos admitted to law enforcement that he sent texts to the 12 year old alleged victim.

Caltrans announced today it is approving the use of low-carbon cement to help reduce the carbon footprint of California’s transportation system. 

The cattle don't belong to Christie; allegations against the Humboldt auction yard, texts with Sheriff Honsal and HCSO Deputy Travis Mendes' "abnormally personal interest" are all mentioned in the latest defense motion 


 Will the third motion be the lucky one for Ray Christie? Judge Gregory Elvine-Kreis has denied two motions so far. If the People chose to file a response; the defense will file a reply so we will have to wait and see what happens.

Bryan Sian arrested for sexual abuse charges involving a minor



Bryan Nmn Sian was arrested by Eureka Police Department and booked for alleged violations of PC 288.5(a), PC 288.7(b), PC 288.7(a), PC 288(b)(1). Bail is 1.8 million.

No hot water at the Courthouse due to system failure


There has been no hot water at the Courthouse since last Thursday. No one seemed to know why. Today, still no hot water.

I found out the County's hot water system failed and a part is due in on Thursday.

"It has never been the law of the land and shouldn't be the law of the land that whoever gets an attorney first doesn't get prosecuted."

Both the prosecution and defense presented compelling opening statements in the Ulisses Rodriguez trial. They finished a few minutes ago and the prosecution is calling witnesses.

Jesse Smalley arrested for failure to appear in court and F& G violation



Jesse Sheldon Smalley was arrested on a foreign warrant and booked on charges of PC 853.7 violating a written promise to appear in court, FG 5652, PC 1320(b) failure to appear in court, PC459/461(B) burglary. The warrant was out of Mendocino County.

Stanley Adams was arrested yesterday by Eureka Police Department for unlawful possession of methamphetamines as well as certain other narcotics. He was also arrested for a 2021 case with charges of PC290.011(a) and PC290.015(a) and parole violation.

10 previous cases, already had a bench warrant and arrested for burglary

 


Brooke Ann Stoebe was arrested by Eureka Police Department yesterday for PC 459/PC 461 (b) burglary.

She already has 10 cases in the system with the last arrest in a 2021 for providing false identification to a peace officer. She failed to appear for arraignment and a bench warrant was issued. That is the only open case.

Flashing lights, sirens near 4th and L


First, there was flashing lights near Eureka City Hall. This was about half an hour ago. Then near 4th and L near the Townhouse motel and where the AA is located. By the time,I got closer, everything clear by 10:30. 

The call was for disturbing the peace and fight but there were no arrests.

EPD had a busy night and a lot of calls for disturbances, welfare checks and suspicious circumstances in the usual spots, 3rd and V, 7th street and 4th street. Early morning there was a drug overdose. At night and early a.m. hours, it isn't hard to guess why.

The former location forAA check cashing on 5th street in Eureka is now a full service salon. I heard this is Scandals' new location.

Eel River Organics attorney failure to appear may result in sanctions

Michael McLaren filed a lawsuit against Eel River Organics LLC, Eel River Dry Farms, Brent Toepper and Jeffrey Guillot. McLaren is represented by Benjamin L. Kennedy. The defendants are represented by Neil Paresh Thakor.

Eel River Organics LLC and Eel River Dry Farms have filed a cross complaint against McLaren.

Kramer can only sue Subway for half the amount and parties to discuss possible settlement


I reported earlier this month on a lawsuit filed by Kramer Investment Corporation against Subway.

Commissioner Fran Greenleaf advised KIC on proof of service, why claim had to be amended and parties may resolve case.

Another convicted felon gets a plea deal and resolves his case today

 


On 1/12, trial confirmation for convicted felon Robert Cullen got continued by stipulation to 1/20.

On 1/19, there was intervention and a change of plea was scheduled for 1/20/22. Today Cullen entered a plea.

On December 23, 2021, Jonathan Palmer entered a plea for a deferred entry of judgement for  12 months. Pamer pleaded guilty to unlawfully bringing a .40 caliber Glock pistol into the courthouse. Would this deal be given to others?

Next court date is 12/23/22. Palmer gets a slap on the wrist. Palmer operates North Coast Legal Support Services. Another example of Humboldt selective justice.

Plea deal, three cases dismissed and probation terminated for Kevin Haberman



After months of not much happening and continuance after continuance, this morning, Kevin Haberman pleaded guilty in his 2020 case. Sentencing is on 2/22/22. Details of plea listed below.

In one day, there is already a jury picked for Ulisses Rodriguez's trial. All left to do is pick four alternates. Opening statements are scheduled for Monday afternoon.

Jury selection to start tomorrow in the Ulisses Rodriguez homicide trial. Ms. Andrea Sullivan is Rodriguez's attorney. Deputy District Attorney Luke Bernthal is the prosecutor for the case.

This is a 2018 case finally going to trial.

18 year old from Salyer arrested for DUI and vehicular manslaughter of 18 year old from Hoopa







On January 15, 2022 at approximately 2:53 P.M eighteen year old Keiahna F. Moody of Salyer was driving her 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser northbound on Pine Creek Road at Moon Lane at approximately 55 MPH, when she was involved in a solo vehicle traffic crash.

The Ray Christie hearing did not take long to be over. It was eventually heard in Courtroom 3.

Austin Wallace arrested for sexual battery, forcible penetration and violating a restraining order



Austin Blake Wallace was arrested yesterday by Fortuna Police Department and Eureka Police Department, according to the jail log for PC 273.6 (a) violating a restraining order, PC 289 (a) (1) (a)forcible sexual penetration with a foreign object and  PC 243.4 (a) sexual battery. He posted bail.

More waste of time and resources in this circus of a case when several others are waiting for their day in court


Ray Christie has a trial confirmation/resetting of trial hearing  on January 18. Currently, his retrial is scheduled for January 31. Judge Elvine-Kreis was assigned to the case for all purposes. This was after Judge Christopher Wilson, who presided over the first trial was in the middle of certain rulings.
