Judges, court staff, IT, jurors and more commended by Chief Justice Roberts for their work and sacrifices during the pandemic

In his 2020 year report to the Federal Judiciary, Chief Justice John G. Roberts, Jr. thanked Judges, court staff, IT, jurors and others involved in the court system for work sacrifices during the pandemic.

At trial assignment for convicted human trafficker David Anderson, the discussion about court trial or bench trial came up. And decisions about that went back and forth for several minutes.

CA Chief Justice program to address ease of criminal case backlogs


California Chief Justice Tani G. Cantil-Sakauye on Tuesday announced she will launch a program to fast track the resolution of criminal cases and make retired judges available through the Temporary Assigned Judges Program to reinforce those efforts.

Four years later and no update on Jennika Suazo's death

 


The last post I did on Jennika Lee Suazo was in November 2018. Still waiting for toxicology reports was the last response. In 2016, she was found deceased in a house on Third and P street.

Four years later, there has been no update. I have reached out to Eureka Police Department. I specifically asked about toxicology reports and if any suspect or suspects had been identified.

145 employees test positive at Washington Costco

The Yakima Health District continues to investigate an outbreak of COVID-19 at Costco.  After conducting site-wide testing, as recommended by YHD, there are now a total of 145 employees that have tested positive for COVID-19.

City of Eureka to halt enforcement of homeless ordinance


An anti-homelessness ordinance set to take effect at midnight tonight has been set aside by the City of Eureka.  City Council will reconsider the ordinance at its next meeting on January 5, 2020. 

Wendy Quinteros arrested again for heroin sales

On December 30th, 2020, special agents with the Humboldt County Drug Task Force (HCDTF), with the assistance of the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department (HCSO), served a search warrant on Wendy Quinteros AKA: Wendy Hensley (46 years old from Eureka) at a residence in the 6000 block of Humboldt Hill Road in Eureka.  Quinteros had been previously arrested for heroin sales on November 19th, 2020.

COVID compliance tip line will be shut down on January 1

Effective Jan. 1, 2021, all COVID-19 compliance activities will be handled by the jurisdiction in which violations are alleged to occur. The COVID-19 Compliance Tip Line, which has been operated by the Humboldt County Emergency Operations Center’s Joint Information Center, will be shut down Jan. 1.

LA District Attorney sued by Association of Deputy District Attorneys


This morning the Association of Deputy District Attorneys for Los Angeles County (ADDA) filed a civil lawsuit seeking a writ of mandate, as well as declaratory and injunctive relief. 

HACHR featured twice next week by Eureka City Council



Next Tuesday, there is a special meeting beginning at 5 PM to discuss the HACHR Mobile SEPs Resolution.  It is also the first item on the regular agenda under ordinances/resolutions for discussion and action if the Eureka City Council need additional time to discuss the item.

Jacquilyn Ann Carter arrested for false imprisonment,assault, domestic battery and criminal threats




Jacquilyn Ann Carter was arrested by EPD yesterday for PC 236 false imprisonment, PC 245 (a) (1), assault with a deadly weapon, PC 243 (e) (1), domestic battery and PC 422 criminal threats.

MNPD and FBI were warned about Warner and bombs in 2019

 


The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said Anthony Quinn Warner was "not on our radar" prior to the Nashville bombing on Christmas this year. 

“But here’s another reality. Those 600 billionaires in this country? As it turns out, as a group, they lost nothing—nothing—during this pandemic. No, exactly the opposite. They got richer. The wealthiest 600 Americans, collectively, added $1 trillion dollars to their bank accounts." 

Senator Chris Murphy from Connecticut gave this speech today. 

"America has 600 billionaires."

"Now, a billion dollars doesn’t sound like a lot of money these days. President Trump just signed a bill begrudgingly that has $900 billion in it. But trust me, a billion dollars is still a whole lot of money. It’s actually so much money that it’s really hard to find words to describe what it looks like. But let me try."

"The other county departments were basically draining the airport. For years, the airport was running in the red instead of black."

Individual donors have contributed thousands of dollars towards the effort to recall Governor Gavin Newsom. 

Humboldt moved from purple to red tier



Humboldt County was moved from the purple tier to the less restrictive red tier today. Humboldt is in  Northern California, the only region where a stay-at-home order isn't in place. This means more businesses can start to open indoor operations.

The case started in 2017. Last action on docket was on 12/23/20.

Trial date set for Deputy County Counsel' disciplinary charges filed in State Bar Court


Trial date set in March for Deputy County Counsel Blair Angus and Natalie Duke. Disciplinary charges were filed against both in State Bar Court.

$19, 500 cash, meth and probation violation in POP bust


On December 23, 2020, at about 1:30 p.m., a Detective with the Eureka Police Department’s Problem Oriented Policing Team (POP) conducted a traffic stop near H and Russ Streets for a minor traffic violation.

DNA and forensic evidence led to identify Anthony Warner as the bomber




Anthony Warner confirmed and referred to as the bomber at press conference going on right now. He was present when the bomb went off and died in the explosion. This is based on DNA, forensic evidence and surveillance footage. No comment on  whether it was the mother's DNA being a match and no questions about whether this is domestic terrorism.

Man on county parole arrested for murder



On 12-24-2020 shortly after 5:40 AM, officers with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) were dispatched to a reported traffic collision causing injury in the 15000 block of Caspar Road near the Pacifica Drive intersection in Caspar, California.

At a press conference that started around 1 p.m. CST,  Nashville Police Chief John Drake and FBI agents gave an update on the investigation.

$200 million in aid for loggers and truckers in new COVID relief bill

Months ago, loggers and truckers were not eligible for pandemic relief but those who supplied Christmas trees were approved for special aid by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Wacky criminal Carone gets exposed by Dominion attorneys

 



This is just one paragraph from the cease and desist letter sent to Mellisa Carone by Dominion's attorneys. The three page letter is posted below.

"We write to you now because you have positioned yourself as a prominent leader of the ongoing misinformation campaign by pretending to have some sort of ‘insider’s knowledge’ regarding Dominion’s business activities, when in reality you were hired through a staffing agency for one day to clean glass on machines and complete other menial tasks."

The Nashville Convention & Visitors Corporation contributed $10,000 contribution toward a reward for information. The amount for that reward kept growing and the last total reported is over 
$300,000.

80 employees test positive at two In and Out locations in Colorado


In-N-Out Burger’s two newly opened Colorado restaurants in Aurora and Colorado Springs each have active COVID-19 outbreaks.  80 staff members having tested positive for the virus. 60 employees from the Colorado Springs location.

Joua Yang arrested again, this time for criminal threats and domestic violence


Joua Yang was arrested by Eureka Police Department yesterday for criminal threats and inflicting corporal injury on spouse/cohabitant. Yang posted bail and is out of custody.

In 2010, Yang was arrested by POP in a meth bust.

CA DMV grants permit to Nuro to deploy self driving vehicles

In a post, Nuro's chief legal and policy officer David Estrada said, "Nuro has become the first company to receive a permit to deploy autonomous vehicles on public streets from the California Department of Motor Vehicles."

LA Sheriff Deputy had an open mic while getting busy on duty


A L.A. County Sheriff's deputy had his mic open while getting busy on the Universal Studios lot near the Bates Motel. 

You hear the woman in the graphic audio recording while a dispatcher repeatedly tries to get the deputy's attention. No response from the deputy.

California man kills his elderly hospital roomate because he was praying

 


One million bail for 37 year old Jesse Martinez, a CoVID 19 patient who is charged with murder, a hate crime enhancement and elder abuse after he allegedly struck his 82-year-old hospital roomate with an oxygen tank. Martinez became angry after the man started to pray. The victim succumbed to his injuries.

Mendocino correctional deputies and inmates test positive for COVID 19


A corrections Deputy employed at the Mendocino County Jail had been off work with an illness.  Per policy the deputy received testing for COVID-19.  On Saturday December 19, 2020 the Corrections Deputy reported to Jail Administration that he had taken a COVID-19 test and received a positive result.
