Thank you Judge Killoran for watching out for public safety and taxpayer dollars; convicted felon Kip Branson and his attorney should have agreed to a resolution months ago instead of wasting time with this mental health diversion tactic

I have covered criminal threats and domestic violent suspect and convicted felon Kip Branson extensively. The alleged victim in the 2025 case is the mother of his daughter.

This post picks up from my last update which is in the previous post.

On 11/10/25, there was a hearing whether Branson should get mental health diversion. On 11/12/25, Humboldt Superior Court Judge Lawrence Killoran issued his ruling and denied mental health diversion. I have included court minutes and the ruling.

On 11/17 Branson's jury trial was continued to 11/18 because no judge and no courtroom was  available for a possible resolution. The case resolved and sentencing is on 12/11.

Defendants in Humboldt County like Branson and their attorneys waste court resources and tax payer dollars on dragging out mental health diversion instead of resolving a case for repeat offenders and convicted criminal. Thank you Judge Killoran for watching out for the public.

This previous post has links to all my coverage on Branson.

12/11/25: Branson was sentenced by Judge Killoran to 6 years in prison; he has 420 custody credits from the local jail and was served with a protective order. PPR report on 1/9/25. Deputy DA Candace Myers is the prosecutor. Deputy Conflict Counsel R.J. Leohner is Branson's attorney.
