Justin Hopman to be appointed as Humboldt County Aviation Director at next week's BOS meeting

 

The County of Humboldt is excited to announce that Justin Hopman is anticipated to be appointed as the county’s new Director of Aviation at the Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 9.

Who's running for Eureka City Council in 2026, nothing official yet

Checked with Eureka City Assistant Manager Pam Powell if she had received any FPPC forms for Eureka City Council. She has not; as of today. As for any potential newcomer, other than  unsubstantiated talk of one Republican running for a Eureka City Council position; have not heard any rumblings.

Virginia's Brian Cole charged for transporting and planting two improvised explosive devices at RNC and DNC headquarters

Brian J. Cole, Jr., of Woodbridge, Virginia, was arrested this morning and charged for transporting and planting two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) on January 5, 2021, at the headquarters of both the Republican National Committee and the Democratic National Committee in Washington D.C. Cole was apprehended after a nearly 5-year investigation by @FBIWFO and its partners. 

December 16 Rio Dell City Council meeting canceled

 

Notice is hereby given that the regularly scheduled meeting of the Rio Dell City Council for December 16, 2025, has been canceled. There are no items pending to come before the Council at this time. 

The next regular meeting of the City Council will be held on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. in the Rio Dell City Hall Council Chambers, 675 Wildwood Avenue, Rio Dell, California.

CA AG Bonta got a $700 million settlement with Google for CA consumers

 

California Attorney General Attorney General Rob Bonta secured compensation for Californians harmed by Google and just issued a press release  with details for consumers to receive payment from $700 Million settlement.

Case filed by Joe Manni against Alexandre Family Farms dismissed; lawsuit filed by Legal Impact for Chickens has a temporary stay in Humboldt Superior Court

In Legal Impact for Chickens vs Alexandre Family Farms, there is a case management conference scheduled for 12/29/25. There was a stipulation and order of stay filed by Harland Law Firm on 7/28/25. 

The parties agreed to a temporary stay during "the pendency of a Petition for Writ of Mandate" filed by Alexandre Family Farms in the First District Court of Appeal except for the CMC on 12/29/25.

Screenshots from 9/11/25 have the disposition in the First District Court of Appeal. Petition for writ of mandate denied. Application for amici curiae by San Francisco Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and Humane Society of the Sierra Foothills denied.

Legal Impact for Chickens is represented by Janssen Malloy. There was a ruling on 5/30/25 by Judge Timothy Canning on Alexandre Family Farms demurrer which was overruled.

Civil cases can take years so whether it is the lawsuit filed against Alexandre Family Farms or the lawsuit filed by Ray Christie against HCSO; it is too early for keyboard warriors and the same group of Humboldt insiders with biases to opine and make statements, when most of them don't read facts, court records and some repeat what they have heard about people they have never met. 

The case Joseph Manni had filed against Alexandre Family Farms was dismissed on 3/3/25. I have reported on this previously that the case had settled. If you read my previous posts on Ray Christie's 2018 criminal trial, you will get the relevance of the ongoing dynamics and the Real Ranchers of Humboldt County reality show playing out in the courts.

Another Best of 2025 Barber award, this one for Munwela's Barbershop, the Eureka winner in the barber shop category "by the authentic feedback of your own customers." Munwela has been in the area since 1999 and 14 years at the 5th and L Eureka location.

I know many of her loyal customers and they chose her over other male barbers in the area.

The third trial has been assigned to Humboldt Superior Court Judge Kaleb Cockrum. Deputy District Attorney Whitney Timm is the prosecutor. Deputy Public Defender Casey Russo is Boudreaux's attorney.

Closing arguments are expected to start today. During this third trial, new evidence was presented from phone extraction. Boudreaux's "porn" searches included "incest porn."

2:40 p.m. Jurors started deliberations. 

2:50 p.m. I just saw Ms. Timm, DA Investigator Ryan Hill and Jane Does leave the courtroom.

In-N-Out continues to expand this year with Colorado and Tennessee locations

 

In-N-Out continues to expand. On November 20, 2025, a location opened in Longmont, Colorado. By the end of 2025, other new locations scheduled to open are all in Tennessee:  Antioch, Lebanon, Franklin and Murfreesboro.

I am no longer linking all previous posts. These screenshots are just some of the posts I have done on Alexandre Family Farms, Blake Alexander and the local law response to animal carcasses during my ongoing coverage of the Ray Christie case. I have done balanced coverage on Christie and called Christie out. He has never retaliated against me or threatened me.

In my October 13, 2024 post, this is a statement I got from a spokesperson for Alexandre Family Farms. "Our mission is to farm in harmony with nature, honoring the Earth and all the animals under our stewardship. We are recognized by Certified Humane for meeting precise, objective standards for how we care for our animals. We will not comment on pending litigation."

I have two separate reports regarding Alexandre Family Farms, one requested by a party on Thursday, June 26, 2025. The first three pages have identifying information about the requesting party which I will not post on the blog as well as information and contact information for HCSO Legal Services Manager, Veronnica Dellis, which I will also not post on the blog. I provided two cropped screenshots of the request to HCSO.

The HCSO report is 20 pages long, heavily redacted and the last page is payment information of the requester which I will not post on the blog.

Gav's press guy spinning the tragedy that resulted in the death of an 11 year old

 

In the showdown between Newsom's Press guy and Homeland Security, the fact that is most relevant is an 11 year old is dead. Newsom's press office defending someone who broke the law 5 times is typical of his soft on crime policies that affect Californians.

Failure to appear in court, arrest warrant issued for Salisha Dean and case referred to DA for affadavit

 

In August, I reported on an arrest by Eureka Police Department of 48 year old Salisha Danale Dean was arrested yesterday by Eureka Police Department for PC 422 criminal threats and PC 417 (a) (1) brandishing a deadly weapon other than a firearm.

The Humboldt County District Attorney's Office charged Dean with  three misdemeanors. Count 1 PC 422 criminal threats; Count  2 PC 417 (a) brandishing a weapon and Count 3 PC 594 (b) (2) vandalism. Alleged victim in  Count  1 Dustin Moran and alleged victim in Count 3 is Nicholle Boulby.

On 11/17, Dean failed to appear for arraignment and arrest warrant was issued by Judge Steven Steward but he also referred to DA for affadavit. 

12/4/25: Dean was booked into the Humboldt County jail on the warrant. She was released om O.R.

President Donald Trump today granted a full and unconditional pardonfor Democrat Rep. Henry Cuellar, D-Texas, and his wife, Imelda in the 2024 alleged bribery case brought against them during and by the Biden administration.

20 year old Luis Camacho arrested on a Ramey warrant and booked on two felonies involving sex with a minor

 

20 year old Luis Carlos Camacho was arrested by Humboldt County Probation on a Ramey warrant yesterday for PC 287(b)(1) oral copulation with a minor and  PC261.5(c) unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor. Bail is $55,000. 

His name frequently appears on the jail log for various crimes and several local law enforcement agencies are familiar with him. He has three Humboldt Superior cases. A conviction in a 2024 traffic case; a conviction and plea to a felony in one 2025 criminal case for carrying a loaded firearm which was not registered and a 2025 DUI which was dismissed as a part of the plea in the other 2025 case with certain conditions.

Former Antioch police officer Devon Wenger sentenced to seven and a half years in federal prison

Former Antioch police officer Devon Christopher Wenger was sentenced today to seven-and-a-half years in federal prison for conspiring to injure, oppress, threaten, or intimidate residents of Antioch through the use of unreasonable force, conspiring to distribute anabolic steroids, and obstructing justice. 

The U.S. Attorney's Office of Northern California issued a press release just now. 

"Masked bandit" Cole went on a liquor fueled

 

Thanks to Hanover County Animal Protection Shelter, the culprit and suspect of a Black Friday break in who went on a liquor fueled spree, then passed out in the store bathroom has been apprehended and was later identified as "Cole."

On Saturday morning, Officer Martin responded to an unusual call at the Ashland ABC Store. Upon arrival, she discovered the “suspect” had broken in, ransacked several shelves, and then… passed out in the bathroom.

The suspect?

A very intoxicated raccoon. 🦝🥃

Officer Martin safely secured our masked bandit and transported him back to the shelter to sober up before questioning. After a few hours of sleep and zero signs of injury (other than maybe a hangover and poor life choices), he was safely released back to the wild, hopefully having learned that breaking and entering is not the answer.

A big shout-out to Officer Martin for handling this chaotic scene with professionalism and good humor. Just another day in the life at Hanover Animal Protection!"

65 year old, convicted felon David Bernard Privat arrested by HCSO for attempted murder, domestic violence, false imprisonment and firearm charge

HCSO just issued a press release about this morning's arrest of Hydesville resident 65-year-old David Bernard Privat. He was booked for PC 664/187 attempted homicide; PC 273.5(a) inflicting corporal injury on spouse/cohabitant; PC 236 false imprisonment and  PC 29800(a)(1) felon in possession of a firearm.
