Having "a baby in 3 months" and your lawyer saying he has too many court appointments is not good cause for a continuance in attempted voluntary manslaughter case

On 6/17, attempted attempted voluntary manslaughter suspect Vincent Nelson was arraigned on information in one of his 2026 cases. He was sitting in court with his mother.

Mr. Ken Bareilles corrected Retired Humboldt Superior Court Judge Christopher Wilson and said he was retained, not court appointed, only to say, "I am busy with court appointments" a few minutes later and to add that Nelson was having "a baby in three months" and that the jury trial be scheduled "7 or 8 months" later and next year.

Deputy DA Jessica Watson appeared on the case for the People. She responded, "the victim also has rights."

Readiness Conference is on 8/27. Jury trial on 9/8. His other 2026 is trailing.
