Preliminary hearing for Jorden Sterling and Melissa Sterling's in the 2026 child abduction case proceeded today in front of Humboldt Superior Court Judge Lawrence Killoran. Deputy District Attorney Jessica Watson appeared on the case for the People.
I reported in April 2026 that Jorden Sterling had applied for a name change. His petition was granted on April 27, 2026 by Humboldt Superior Court Judge Timothy Canning for Jorden J. Place.
Why is Jordo calling himself Jorden Couch? Is he going to have as many names as his Facebook accounts under his old name?
He represented himself. Melissa Sterling's attorney is Ms. Andrea Sullivan. Jorden, you are lucky you have Ms. Sullivan as co- counsel to do the heavy lifting.
Both cases were reduced to misdemeanors. Both cases were set for trial on a no-time waived basis.
In CR 2601548A and CR 2601548B, Trial confirmation is on 7/8; jury trial on 7/13.
In CR2502755 B, Jordo represented himself in his burglary and theft case. He was held to answer on both charges and his PC 17 (b) motion was denied. Arraignment on information is on 7/8. Jordo's CR2401780 is trailing his felony case at this request.
Yesterday, after my Jorden and Melissa Sterling post, I was contacted from an email address, which if it it belings to the woman whose name is listed and is someone has been documented.
Another woman mouthed off to me with similar words about Jordo, interrupted me while working and almost created a scene in front of a potential Courtroom 1 juror. Don't know if she is the same woman, don't give a damn if she is the same woman but lately mouthy women who think they can come harass or interrupt my work seem to be frequenting and acting out whatever their issues are at the Courthouse.
They cannot read and because they are interested for in an alleged criminal's case, they think they know the law and are entitled to my time and bothering me. There is a term I could use to describe them but I will let readers come up with their choice.
Another drama filled case from the crowd who thinks the Courthouse is Facebook. If the email address sent to me actually belongs to the woman with the same name. She lists Fortuna as her current location and has Oregon as one of her previous addresses and I did look up your 2014 case. You know the court date you failed to appear.
You want to help Jordo? Tell him to work on not having so many open cases; at least in two counties. Law enforcement is busy, lawyers are overwhelmed, I have other cases to cover that are my priority and the child abduction charge and the number of open cases Jordo has is the only reason I have even followed the 2026 case.

A convicted felon in his 2016 case. There are duplicates and that glitch has not been fixed by Humboldt Superior Court for years.
