Yesterday, the DA filed a complaint for Shawn Kolpak's 2026 arrest by SPD charging him with Count 1 attempted murder of William Gratwick Spenceley with a special allegation of great bodily injury and paralysis as well as great bodily injury of an elderly victim. Count 2 is aggravated mayhem.
Kolpak was arraigned this afternoon in the 2026 case. Public Defender's office appointed; People filed amended complaint and Kolpak is on a no bail status. Preliminary hearing is on 3/19.
The amended charges are not in e court and they were still not added when I checked e court and with the clerk on 2/9. The clerk looked at the file and told me that another special allegation was added to Count PC 1192.7 (c) serious felony which is considered a strike offense under California three strikes law.
I did a post yesterday about Kolpak who already has a previous and open case for assault with great bodily injury special allegations. Kolpak should never have been granted supervised release in that case by Retired Humboldt Superior Court Judge Christopher Wilson given the charges.
