I expected defense to do this but filing a motion to continue hours before tomorrow's closing arguments in the Daryl Jones' case ?

(These are photos I took today in court today Only I have the media request for the preliminary hearing. Do not share or post photos without permission and credit.)

Tomorrow morning, the preliminary hearing in  terroristic and criminal threat suspect Daryl Jones' case is scheduled to resume with closing arguments and ruling from Humboldt Superior  Court Assistant Presiding Judge Timothy Canning.

This hearing has been scheduled since January 7. I have been checking this case for over a week now because I expected a defense motion to continue. This based on covering Humboldt Superior Court and knowing the attorneys. I also have not seen Conflict Counsel Supervising Attorney Megan O'Connell who represents Jones.

This morning; nothing. This afternoon, at the very last minute, when I checked the case, there was an order shortening time filed by Conflict Counsel. A few minutes later at 3 p.m. an entry for motion to continue.I informed Humboldt Superior Court Assistant Court Operation Manager Scott Anderson and then contacted Deputy District Attorney Roger Rees who didnt even have any knowledge of this late filing until I told him.

The document is not in e court and the file is with Judge Canning. I don't know what the reason is for the continuance but it better be a damn good one instead of the nonsense reasons in Humboldt by defense that waste everyone's time and are granted.

I could have waited until tomorrow morning to post this but thought maybe community members who have an interest in this case should know. It maybe helpful to other local media but they were not there all the time for 5 days of the preliminary hearing and I don't know who will show up in person tomorrow.

2/11/26: Ms. O'Connell is ill and closing arguments were continued to March  10.  Deputy Conflict Counsel Zach Curtis appeared in court today for his office.

The two screenshots of my last two posts which have exclusive information on this case not reported by anyone else.
