Daryl Ray Jones, the school threat suspect who was extradited from Oklahoma on a Ramey warrant was booked into the Humboldt County jail on one felony count of PC 422 criminal threats. Just confirmed with jail that he was booked on no bail status but that could change at a future court appearance.
Calls were being made in the last couple of weeks to find Jones a local lawyer. With all the local publicity and irate parents, let's see who shows up at arraignment or if he gets a public defender appointed.
I have already put in a request with HCSO for a Humboldt booking photo but after the 9th Circuit ruling, I know these decisions and any exceptions are on a case to case basis. With the exception of a yellow shirt, Jones looks the same in his Humboldt booking photo.
HCSO Lt. Jesse Taylor, is handling media inquiries until a full time PIO is hired. He responded to my request and his answer is consistent with past inquiries to HCSO since the 9th Circuit ruling. "Unfortunately, pursuant to PC 13665, we are unable to release his booking photograph at this time as he is in custody and is no longer considered a fugitive or imminent threat to the community. "
California Penal Code Section 13665 restricts law enforcement from sharing booking photos on social media for nonviolent crimes unless specific circumstances exist. Specifically, the law requires that booking photos be removed from social media within 14 days unless they are necessary for locating a fugitive, reducing a threat, or are ordered by a judge. --Google AI overview
I also contacted APD Chief Bart Silvers with a question about the Ramey warrant and if a press release will be issued. He responded, "APD authored the warrant. We will not be issuing a press release regarding Mr. Jones custody status."
