Only North Coast News and I were at terrostic and criminal threat suspect Daryl Ray Jones OR bail hearing which ended a few minutes ago. He is still in a red jumpsuit which means he is still in admin segregation.
Besides court staff, court bailiffs, Victim Witness Advocate Judge Lawrence Killoran, Deputy District Attorney Roger Rees, Deputy Conflict Counsel David Nims and Ms. Joanne Carter, who represents the alleged victim in Count 1 and 2 and the us, no one was in the courtroom. Some of the alleged victims were present via Zoom.
John Doe in Count 1 and 2 is Jane Doe. Mr. Rees is going to correct that in the complaint. I explained two days ago why I did not add the complaint and the Ramey warrant in my last post. I could have. They are public documents; other media has seen it and unlike Times Standard who has not been in court and reported a day after I wrote about the charges wrote details from the Ramey warrant. I waited a few days. I even informed Ms. Carter why I waited and that I would be adding it to the post.
Jones is not going anywhere. When and if the DA amends the complaint, I will replace it; no minors have been identified in court. One of the alleged victims, Roger McDonald has been in the news. People are aware of the threats and this has been all over social media where there are no standards or moderation or even verification of information. People should read the complaint and Ramey warrant which does not even cover what the alleged victims went through. This information will be presented at prelininary hearing.
There were some details shared in court today. Jones is not going anywhere until the preliminary hearing & I doubt he will after. With 19 felonies and the evidence in this case, Jones will face consequences. I am sure the defense will evaluate him for mental health diversion or not guilty by reason of insanity. From what I have observed so far, he understands what is going on and could be a narcissist or sociopath but I am not buying the mentally ill excuse. In Count 1 stalking is the charge and Count 2 criminal threats, towards an ex he dated in middle school for two weeks.
Judge Killoran signed the arrest warrant, he was the judge at arraignment and at today's hearing. Both Mr. Rees and Judge Killoran mentioned how Jones' terrorizing the schools, community and local businesses.
Mr. Nims is Jones' assigned attorney. In his argument for Jones' release, it was mentioned Jones grew up in San Diego and most of his family is in that area. Then he went to Oklahoma. Jones' father lives in Oklahoma; his mother in Texas.
Jones asked Mr. Nims to tell Judge Killoran that if released, he would stay at the Rescue Mission and he would only make calls to his family.
Judge Killoran said that Jones had no ties to the community. He mentioned the criteria for public safety in evaluating release. Judge Killoran then referred to the arrest warrant and Jones actions and the impact on the local community. Judge Killoran gave an example of Jones calling Starbucks and telling employees he was going to shoot everyone. Then calling them back and saying he was outside. Judge Killoran continued no bail hold for Jones.
If Jones had a brain or any remorse, he would beg the DA's office for a plea before the preliminary hearing; I doubt they would agree to one but depends on the defense offer. It would spare the alleged victims more trauma. None of this mental health treatment or being to the state hospital for Jones. He needs to do hard time for what he put people through for months.
Preliminary hearing is scheduled for 4/24. I doubt it will proceed on that day with all the evidence and the number of charges.
