HCSO deputies and EPD cars at Comfort Inn on Broadway

"Something big is happening at the Comfort Inn on Broadway. It's all taped off and there are lots sheriff deputies and cars." Just received a message from a reader. "About 15 cars which includes EPD on scene.

It is a weekend and I doubt I can get through to anyone right now at HCSO assisting an active incident. I also reached out to EPD. An incident on the 4200 block of Broadway  around 7:30 a.m. is listed.

10:22 a.m.: EPD is working on press release. One of the EPD officers on scene is Andrew Endsley.

EPD Press Release:

At approximately 7:04 am Eureka Police Department was dispatched to the 4200 block of Broadway for a male breaking into a vehicle after starting a small grass fire in the parking lot. The male appeared to be altered. When officers approached, the subject became suicidal. The CARE (Crisis Alternative Response of Eureka) team and CNT (Crisis Negotiation Team) were called to scene. After several hours of negotiating with the subject, he was finally taken into custody without incident.  A more detailed press release will be released on Monday, June 3, 2024.
