Alleged molestor and rapist Root Birimisa was arrested in September 2023. I have regularly followed his case since and on October 2, 2024, he finally had a preliminary hearing for CR2302854. Judge Lawrence Killoran held Birimisa to answer as charged.
Deputy District Attorney Whitney Timm is the prosecutor for the case. Deputy Conflict Counsel Owen Tipps is Birimisa's attorney. EPD Officer Dimitrious Tagaropoulos and EPD Sgt. Cory Crnich testified. Officer Tagaropoulos' name is incorrectly spelled in court minutes. Arraignment on information is scheduled for 10/16.
10/16: Arraigned on information. Trial setting on 11/15.
11/15: Trial setting continued by defense to 12/5 so Deputy DA Whitney Timm who is the prosecutor for this case can be present. Ms. Timm is currently busy with a jury trial. Deputy County Counsel Heather Cooper's petition to renew involuntary medication order was also continued to 12/5.
12/5: Readiness Conference on 3/12/25; jury trial on 3/24/25. Request to renew involuntary medication granted.
3/12/25: Readiness Conference continued to 3/13 with motion to continue: defense wants to enter additional plea of not guilty by reason of insanity.
3/13: Defense motion to continue off calendar. Readiness & entry of NGRI plea on 3/17.
3/17: Deputy DA Candance Myers appeared for Ms. Timm who is in trial. 3/17 CR2302854 Root Birimisa
Readiness Conference & entry of NGRI plea. Additional plea of not guilty by reason of insanity entered. 3/24/25 date vacated. Trial setting + appointment of experts on 4/3/25.
