DA claims bite marks on Mia's arm cannot be distinguished, defense to subpoena criminalist who prepared DNA report

Yesterday, at trial confirmation for murder suspect Daniel Dozier, Deputy District Attorney Roger Rees and Ms. Andrea Sullivan both confirmed the 5/13 jury trial but with some caveats and comments from Ms. Sullivan and then a response from Judge Joyce Hinrichs,  whether it will proceed on that day is uncertain. Time estimate given by Mr. Rees is 3 to 5 weeks. Trial assignment is May 10.

Dozier is out of custody and sat in court with Ms. Sullivan, this was a few rows behind Mia Felder's parents. Before the case was called, Mr. Rees handed Ms. Sullivan some paperwork. There was no other media in court.

There was a third person there that night. Dozier's on and off girlfriend, Luccille Wetzel, who testified at the preliminary hearing.

"I believe I received the last bit of discovery this morning," said Ms. Sullivan.

Mr. Rees said the discovery he handed Ms. Sullivan in court was a DNA report. "Mia had bite marks on her forearm. Ms. Sullivan wanted a DNA report. I don't think any lab has the technology to distinguish DNA and exclude Dozier as a contributor."

Ms. Sullivan daid, "I intend to subpoena the criminalist for the report I received today if the People will allow him to appear via Zoom."

Ms. Sullivan asked if about the jury questions. Mr. Rees will send her questions he wants included.

"I have other trials scheduled that have priority," said Ms. Sullivan. Mr. Dozier is out of custody."

Judge Hinrichs said there is no way of knowing what will happen, the usual court staff blah blah. Judge Hinrichs, anyone who is familiar with the way Humboldt courts works knows the standard spiel. Ms. Sullivan was making a record like any competent attorney. She also appears in other counties all over California where things are done differently than the Humboldt way.
