On 10/31, Retired Judge John Feeney held alleged Tyler Ruise to answer on all charges. He is charged with two counts of PC 288.7(a) sexual intercourse and sodomy with a child under 10.
HCSO Detective Jennifer Taylor testified for the People. Ms. Kendra Thornton testified via Zoom as a defense expert. Deputy District Attorney Carolyn Schaffer is the prosecutor. Mr. Mario Tafur is Ruise's attorney. Arraignment on information scheduled for 11/15.
Ruise has a prior conviction in a 2018 domestic violence case.
11/15: Readiness Conference on 2/20/25; jury trial on 3/10/25.
2/20/25: Readiness Conference continued by DA to 3/4 to discuss offer with victim's family.
3/4/25: 3/10 date vacated. Change of plea scheduled for 3/14.
3/14/25: Ruise entered a guilty plea to Count 2 and 4; Counts 1 and 3 dismissed. Stipulation that he will serve 6 years. Custody status changed to no bail by Judge Kaleb Cockrum. Sentencing is on 4/11/25.
