Yesterday, Eureka Police Department arrested 57 year old Paul Casanas VC23152(f) driving under the influence of drugs and VC 14601.2(a) driving with a suspended license due to a DUI offense. He was released on O.R.
Based on the booking photo, charges and time of arrest, I have contacted EPD. EPD PIO Laura Montagna confirmed this is the suspect in the Family Nails and Spa incident.
Casanas was convicted by a jury in 2005 A jury convicted defendant of three counts of furnishing a minor with a controlled substance in violation of Health and Safety Code section 11380, subdivision (a), and two counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor in violation of Penal Code section 261.5, subdivision (c). Meth and marijuana was found in his pants when he was arrested. In 2007, he lost an appeal in this case.

EPD Press Release (issued 3/4 at 2:50 p.m.) :
On Saturday, March 2, 2024, at approximately 10:48 am, Eureka Police Officers were dispatched to the report of vehicle into a building at the corner of Wabash and Broadway. Upon officers arrival, they discovered a vehicle had left the roadway, struck a fire hydrant and collided into a closed business at this location. The driver was evaluated by medical personnel for injuries and refused all medical care.
The driver, Paul Casanas, 57 years old from Eureka, was evaluated by officers and subsequently arrested for driving under the influence and driving on a suspended license from a prior DUI. Casanas was transported and booked at the Humboldt County Jail. City of Eureka Public Works responded to the scene and shut off the water at the fire hydrant.
