I leave it to my savvy readers to draw their own conclusions about Humboldt County's responses and delays regarding my PRA request about First District Supervisor Rex Bohn

 

I put in a PRA request on 11/4/25, the same day Humboldt County First District Supervisor Rex Bohn said he was being investigated during a Board of Supervors meeting which I was covering live and in person. No other local media has reported on it; even mentioned it.

In all the years, I have covered Humboldt County, sent in PRA requests locally, they have been answered within the deadline required. Recently, Humboldt County even responded earlier than needed to my PRA request about Second District Supervisor Michelle Bushnell and my PRA request about why I was unsubscribed. Most people read my blog regularly and daily. The first red flag was the response to my PRA request about being unsubscribed. I left it alone. I have way more important things to do right now and am too busy to deal with the County or their lawyers who get paid by the taxpayers.

Not only did the County drag and respond to me on November 17, they have delayed it twice, the second response sent on November 21. I have spoken to a few lawyers. I will post one response by one lawyer.

"The CPRA requires the agency to respond to a request for records within 10 days from receipt of the request. Gov. Code §7922.535. This 10 day response is not a deadline for providing access to the records, but the deadline for the agency to notify the requesting party about its determination of whether it has the requested records, and if they will be disclosed. The agency can extend the 10-day response period for an additional 14 days if there is a need for more time to search and collect the records from separate facilities, to search for voluminous records, to consult with another interested agency or department, or to compile electronic records. Gov. Code §7922.535(b) (see Gov. Code link above). The CPRA does not provide a precise deadline for providing access to records. It states that the agency shall make the records "promptly available." Gov. Code §7922.530(a)."

Another attorney sent me this response.

"The PRA lets them create a single 14 day extension for a "determination" as to whether responsive records exist.  They then have to produce them promptly; however, delays on the production do not qualify as formal extensions.  Generally speaking, delays of weeks on that side are ok, delays of months or years aren't usually prompt unless there are a ton of records / it is a large request. "

I will leave it to the readers to draw their own conclusions about the delay in responding to my request about Rex.

Cal Poly Humboldt acquires 191 acres of land but has no current plans to develop the property

Cal Poly Humboldt  issued a press release just now about the acquisition of 191 acres of agricultural and industrial property on Foster Avenue in Arcata. The property is part of the former Sun Valley Farms site and was purchased by the Cal Poly Humboldt Foundation and leased to the University. There are no current plans to develop the 191-acre property.

38 year old Alias Coyote Hensel was arrested by HCSO on a Ramey warrant yesterday for PC 288.2(a)(1) sending harmful material to seduce a minor, PC 311.11(c)(2) possession of child porn depicting sadomasochistic material and PC 311.11(c)(1) possession of child pornography if there are more than 600 images and/or includes 10 or more images depicting a prepubescent minor or a minor under 12 years old. Hensel was booked on a no bail status.

Former City of Eureka employee sues the City for religious discrimination and retaliation; COVID 19 mandate; abortion, religious beliefs

Former City of Eureka and Eureka Police Department employee Ashley Nieman filed a lawsuit against City of Eureka on 11/5/25. Payroll records and an EPD post show Ms. Nieman worked in the records department and confirm the 16 years mentioned on page 1 of the lawsuit.

A notice and summons has been sent out from Humboldt Superior Court to City of Eureka.

Nieman is represented by Mr. Alan Jay Reinach of the from the Church State Council, Westlake Village, California. From his bio on the website, "is a civil rights lawyer and Seventh-day Adventist minister who has served as President of the Church State Council, the education, advocacy and legal services ministry of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the western United States, since 1994."

Allegations are religious discrimination and retaliation.

On P.1, Nieman  states "her sincere beliefs came into direct conflict with" City of Eureka's vaccine mandate

On P.2  Nieman told the City of Eureka "she could not take the vaccines because they had been tested and/or developed using fetal cells from aborted babies."

On P. 5 and 6, it states Nieman "referenced five discrete Bible texts" and Exodus 20:13; Psalm 139 13-16 and Jeremiah 1:5 are mentioned.

On P. 7. it states Nieman was willing to wear a mask and have regular testing.

Nieman is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. 

A Case Management Conference is scheduled for 5/8/26.

12/18/25: The City of Eureka filed an answer. It was still not entered in e court as of 

1/22/26. I told AJ civil cherk supervisor and it was finally entered in system on 1/23/26. The City of Eureka hired Lozano Smith, a LA law firm.

Just this morning, heard Humboldt Superior Court Assistant Operations Manager Scott Anderson tell HCSO Sgt. Josh Comer "2-3 courts are down"; between that & judges being disqualified, most local court cases can wait to updated when I have time.

Former CFO of ABS Seafood Inc. sentenced to three years in federal prison for embezzling over 9 million

Antonietta Nguyen was sentenced to three years in federal prison for her role in orchestrating multiple fraud schemes and embezzling over 9 million from ABS Seafood, Inc., a wholesaler in San Francisco, where Nguyen previously served as Chief Financial Officer. In addition to the prison term, her sentence includes a three-year period of supervised release.

HCSO arrests 43 year old who violated a court order and attacked his 70 year old mother and fleeing the scene

 

On Nov.16, 2025, at approximately 12:33 a.m., Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 7300 block of State Highway 36 in Carlotta for a reported physical assault. While en route, deputies were advised that the suspect had attacked his 70-year-old mother and fled the scene.

Based on what I know so far about the alleged incident leading to Cass Bell's arrest; I am curious if the DA will file charges. If the DA does; will they agree to a resolution or be able to prove their case beyond a reasonable doubt?

 

I was the first one to report on Cass Bell's arrest by Eureka Police Department. As of 11/14, the Humboldt County DA had not received a report and no charges are filed.

When the DA's office receives the report, they will have more information than the media and the public. Based on what I know so far about the alleged incident leading to Cass Bell's arrest; I am curious if the DA will file charges. If the DA does; will they agree to a resolution or be able to prove their case beyond a reasonable doubt?

I am not going to reveal my sources except to say that it is from people in the know about the incident; and if I know about it; then this information is also out in the community.

The disclaimer is that at least one of the sources  is  pro Bell and was so before this incident. The other source may or may not be pro Bell but is a private investigator and may have his own biases about EPD.

According to one source, the alleged victim is J.B, ex law enforcement (not EPD, was with another agency) but has some "connections with EPD"; not my words but what I was told. 

My other sources confirmed what the first source told me which is the alleged victim has a connection to the "fighter community"; local gyms; both Bell and the alleged victim were drinking and from what I can gather by the little information I know, who provoked who and whether there a self defense argument will probably be factors in whether the DA files charges. There is video evidence which I am sure the DA will have access to before making a decision.

What I can say for certain is that this is another local situation of drama within the community and different camps who will not be happy no matter what happens because everyone has their biases instead of looking at this objectively and according to the law.

Inyo Superior Court Judge Susanne Rizo admonished by CJP for misconduct

 

On October 29, the California Commission on Judicial Performance issued a press release on the public admonishment of Inyo Superior Court Judge Susanne M. Rizo.

The misconduct was for failure to cooperate with court administrators and the presiding judge of her court and reporting two court administrators to the State Bar of California; for responding to routine scheduling communications from a court administrator in a volatile and disproportionate manner; for speaking about litigants and their pending cases in an area of the courthouse where she could be overheard, improperly dismissing a case, and making a probable cause determination concerning a litigant from whose cases she was disqualified. 

Hearing on charges filed by CJP against Justice William J. Murray, Jr scheduled to begin December 1

On 11/7/25, the CJP issued a press release about a hearing  scheduled to begin on December 1 at the Sacramento Superior Court.  The hearing is open to the public. The CJP press release explains the procedure and what happens if charges are proved.

On 11/26/25, the CJP issued a press release vacating the December 1 hearing. "The Commission on Judicial Performance filed a Notice of Formal Proceedings in the inquiry concerning Justice William J. Murray, Jr. (Ret.), a justice of the California Court of Appeal, Third Appellate District on June 10, 2025. A hearing before special masters appointed by the Supreme Court was set to commence on Monday, December 1, 2025, at 9:00 a.m., at the Superior Court of California, County of Sacramento, 720 9th Street, Sacramento, California. The commission has issued an order vacating the hearing date. A further public announcement will be issued forthwith. "
