"Lil E" aka convicted criminal Miguel Moreno is not just a repeat offender; he is a dumb criminal. He assaulted the wrong man with a glass bong.

(2023)

Miguel Moreno is not just a convicted repeat offender; he is a dumb criminal. He assaulted the wrong man. He was 19 years old when I covered his last case. At 21, he is racking up quite the record in Humboldt Superior Court.

Prosecutors' response to defense request that Tyler Robinson appear in civilian clothes and without shackles sealed; ruling by Judge Graf on Monday

(Robinson photo from First Appearance hearing. Credit: Scott G Winterton for Deseret News)

At Tyler Robinson's last hearing, defense asked that he be allowed to appear in civilian clothes and unshackled. This afternoon, there was a private hearing before Utah Fourth District Judge Tony Graf after a filing.

Utah County Attorney's Office jointly with the Utah County Sheriff filed a response.

The opposition by the prosecutors was sealed because "it might endanger personal and public safety if disclosed" and includes information from the court’s security director about specific security measures in Robinson's case.

Judge Graf is expected to issue a ruling Monday which I plan to cover live. There is also a waiver hearing next Thursday which will be Robinson's first court hearing that I also plan to cover live.

23 State Attorney Generals including Arizona and California sent a 7 page letter today to USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins about SNAP benefit hold for November 2025

23 State Attorney Generals including Arizona and California sent a 7 page letter today to USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins about SNAP benefit hold for November 2025.

I have included the statement just issued by CA AG Rob Bonta about the letter.

This is a text that went out at 5 p.m. in CA. It is unfair to call out President Trump but I agree with the blame on Congress where both parties in their power struggle failed the most vulnerable. Senator Josh Hawley had legislation that could have addressed this; it didn't even get the media coverage it should have.

Convicted felon Allen Perkins sentenced 25 years to life for criminal threats and a concurrent 6-year prison sentence for vandalism

Convicted felon Allen Perkins's sentencing in CR2303622 was continued by stipulation to 10/24. The court had the probation report  & Romero motion but Humboldt Deputy DA Roger Rees both and Deputy Conflict Counsel Zach Curtis were both in trial that day and the court calendar impacted. People had no victim impact statements and opposed Romero motion. The defense motion was denied.

Convicted felon Allen Perkins was sentenced by Humboldt Superior Court Retired Judge Christopher Wilson to 25 years to life for criminal threats in the 2023 case and a concurrent 6-year prison sentence for vandalism.

CR2500428, CR2401907, CR2402006 and CR2402167 were dismissed by the People.

The Humboldt County District Attorney's office issued a press release at 3:48 p.m.

Convicted sex offender and sexual batterer Frank Alves sentenced to 2 years probation

Convicted sex offender and sexual batterer Frank Alves was sentenced to 2 years probation today by Humboldt Superior Court Presiding Judge Kelly Neel. He was originally charged with forcible rape before he resolved his case.

I covered his plea in detail in the last post. Alves Next court date is a review hearing on 1/7/26 for sex offender evaluation.

Humboldt Deputy District Attorney Carolyn Schaffer is the prosecutor for this case. Mr. Gregory Kreis is Alves' attorney. Jane Doe is legally blind and Alves was her caregiver.

Nicholas Sarkozy flips out in court, glares at me, the jurors, called a juror "a dickhead" after the verdict and was cuffed and taken out of the courtroom

At 1:50 p.m. I was there as the jury  for Nicholas Sarkozy had a verdict. In the courtroom, they informed Humboldt Superior Court Judge Lawrence Killoran that they reached a verdict on three counts and were hopelessly deadlocked on three counts. Sarkozy found guilty of criminal threats, false imprisonment and dissauding a witness. The jury "hung" and was "hopelessly deadlocked" on the domestic violence charge and two counts of violating a protective order.

The vote breakdown does not indicate guilt or innocence but the foreperson said for the three counts, it was 11-1; 5-7 and 9-3. Judge Killoran polled each juror who said "they were hopelessly deadlocked."

I was the only one in the courtroom and the only one so far and first one to speak to jurors and have exclusive feedback. Sarkozy glared at me while we were waiting for the jury, started talking after the verdict and before the jury had left and then yelled and screamed at the jurors. Called one of the jurors "dickhead." This was because that male juror had his fingers against lip motioning Sarkozy to be quiet since Judge Killoran was talking.

"No wonder people do not believe in the ...justice system," Sarkozy screamed as he was being led out of the courtroom. "You put an innocent man in prison."

Thankfully, HCSO Sgt. Josh Comer and HCSO Det. Brian Buihner were in the courtroom. They were very swiftly and discreetly positioned themselves to protect the judge, court staff, attorneys and jurors. Sarkozy was cuffed and taken out of the courtroom due to the disruption.

During the trial, his attorney, Deputy Conflict Counsel Zach Curtis had to repeatedly tell him to be quiet. Judge Killoran had to admonish him several times.

Judge Killoran had to apologize to the jurors today for Sarkozy.

"You have been an outstanding jury" Judge Killoran told them. I agree based on my observations.

Even though they disagreed on some counts, jurors exchanged numbers. I would have posted earlier but I was talking with them, including some of the jurors I know.

When he was on the stand earlier, Sarkozy put on a show, saying "objection.; asked and answered" when Humboldt Deputy Brandon Boozari was questioning him.

Sarkozy is a moron. He is a danger to the public. And he has two other open cases. He needs to stop being a narcissistic ass, take responsibility and on November 21, I hope he gets the maximum prison sentence allowed.

In a previous post on the trial, I reported that he told a witness not to come to court. Those phone calls were recorded and the jury heard them.

This morning at 10:59 a.m on X this was the tweet.

This evening a letter was sent to California Governor Gavin Newsom, California Attorney General Rob Bonta and San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins from Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche.

Yet another convicted sex offender gets probation for possession of over 600 images of child pornography in Humboldt instead of prison

Ryan Greenwood was arrested by Eureka Police Department on August 27 on a Ramey warrant for PC 311.11(c)(1) possession of over 600 images of child pornography which involved a minor engaged in or simulating sexual conduct.

The DA's complaint charged him with that crime as a felony. At his arraignment, Humboldt Superior Court Judge Kelly Neel said this crime is punishable by 5 years in custody and sex offender registration.

On 10/22, 10/22 before his preliminary hearing, Greenwood entered a guilty plea to PC 311.11 (c) (1) as misdemeanor instead of felony. Humboldt Superior Court Judge Kaleb Cockrum sentenced Greenwood to 1 year probation. While 16 days jail time imposed, Greenwood was given credit for time served. He has to register as sex offender for a minimum of 10 years.

Humboldt Deputy District Attorney Carolyn Schaffer is the prosecutor for this case. Deputy Conflict Counsel Owen Tipps is Greenwood's attorney.

Greenwood had 17 traffic cases in Humboldt Superior Court prior to this arrest in 2025 child pornography arrest.

Early turnout for the Humboldt November 2025 election is the highest since the 2021 Special Recall Election

(Photo: John Chiv)

Just met with Humboldt County Clerk, Recorder and Registrar of Voters for a few minutes. Busy morning for both of us so I appreciate his time and getting me the information I requested on such short notice.

I saw him yesterday and asked if I could get some data on local Prop 50 votes so far. I appreciate the overview and stats he prepared on such short notice. This is an exclusive which will not on the website and no other media has this information. They could request it after my post.

All figures reflect vote by mail ballots received 14 days prior to the election.

Significant turnout for this November compared to 2024 and 2022. As you can see, the numbers are very similar to 2021 Recall Election.

The result of Prop 50 indicate a message about and to California Governor Gavin Newsom. We will see if my hunch is accurate and how local precincts voted.

Convicted felon Jackson Parrott sentenced to 6 years in prison, Kreis' Romero motion denied by Judge Steven Steward, 2 years prison in second case

Yesterday, convicted felon Jackon Parrott was sentenced by Humboldt Superior Court Judge Steven Steward to 6 years in prison. Humboldt Deputy District Ian Harris appeared on both of Parrott's open cases. The Romero motion by Mr. Gregory Kreis, Parrott's current attorney was denied. The sentencing was lengthier than usual because of the arguments on the motion.

A Romero motion is a legal request in California that asks a judge to dismiss a prior serious or violent felony conviction for sentencing purposes under the state's Three Strikes Law. Named after the 1996 California Supreme Court case People v. Superior Court (Romero), the motion allows a judge to remove a "strike" from a defendant's record.

Justin Mixon who is unlawfully and motivated by an unnatural and abnormal sexual interest in children" resolves his case before preliminary and has to register as a sex offender

On 10/21, instead of his preliminary hearing, 28 year old Justin Mixon entered a guilty plea to Count 1, PC 288.4 (b) meeting minor for lewd purposes. The detailed complaint elaborates the the charge which states Mixon is "unlawfully and motivated by an unnatural and abnormal sexual interest in children." Mixon is required to register as a sex offender. Counts 2 and 3 were dismissed by the People.

Humboldt Deputy District Attorney Whitney Timm is the prosecutor for this case. Deputy Public Defender Casey Russo is Mixon's attorney.

Sentencing is on 11/14/25.

The previous post I did on Mixon's July arrest has more information including the complaint, updates on the case until the plea and Mixon's two 2023 cases transferred from Mendocino County. Mixon has a family law case in Mendocino County. He filed the case to "establish parental relationship."

Why didn't Senator Josh Hawley's bill to reinstate SNAP and farm benefits during the shutdown receive more coverage?

Why didn't Senator Josh Hawley's bill to restore SNAP and farm benefits during the shutdown receive more coverage? I accidentally found the press release from his office which is posted below.

Criminal threats and domestic violence suspect Nicholas Sarkozy's jury went into deliberations for 5 minutes today and left for the day

After closing arguments today, the jury in criminal threats and domestic violence suspect Nicholas Sarkozy's trial, which is for one of three open cases, went into the deliberations room at 4:25 p.m. and left today at 4:30 p.m. The other two cases are trailing and one of them is for probation violation.

Sarkozy is seated at the counsel table and in the past two days, it seems like he is in a yellow wheelchair. He turned to look at me after the jury had left and attorneys were having brief discussions about verdict forms with Humboldt Superior Court Judge Lawrence Killoran.

Deputy District Attorney Brandon Boozari is the prosecutor for the case. Deputy Conflict Counsel Zachary Curtis is Sarkozy's attorney.
