In a 6-3 ruling today, The U.S. Supreme Court stayed a District Court’s order pending appeal with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.
The Eureka Police Department is pleased to announce the launch of its newly enhanced Citizen RIMS platform, powered by Sun Ridge Systems.
Anil Dwivedi and Dwivedi Tower LLC filed a motion to strike on 6/18 in the lawsuit filed against them by Hillsdale Apartments residents Don Swall and Vanessa Vachon. Details are not in e court yet. I checked the case earlier in the day and this filing did not appear until later in the day on 6/18. June 19 was a holiday with the Courthouse closed. I checked on 6/20 and again today in e court and then with the court clerk. The document has still not been scanned other than acknowledging receipt of the document, even the court clerk has no details. This is within the deadline of Dwivedi LLC's response to the second amended complaint. No date has been scheduled on this motion; yet. There is previously scheduled case management conference on 8/18/25.
Dhillon Law Group had previously filed a motion to strike for Dwivedi LLC which they withdrew later and the hearing was taken off calendar.
6/30/25: I checked on this case on 6/27. Still no documents. The documents were scanned when I checked this morning. There is a hearing on the motion to strike "allegations pursuant CCP 435-437" on 7/11/25.
I have added the declaration and motion filed by Dhillon Law Group and one of the exihbits which is an addendum to Swall's lease signed 5/2/25. Other documents filed are a proposed order; proof of service to Janssen Malloy's Ms. Meagan Yarnall, Mr. Jeff Slack, Karen Ellis and Ashley Richardson. Dhillon Law Firm also filed a request for judicial notice.
Charges were filed today by the DA against 27 year old Arda Kizilay arrested by Eureka Police Department on 6/18. Kizilay is a local food delivery service driver.Bail at booking is $90,000.
EPD arrested Kizilay for sexual battery by restraint and burglary. Those are also the charges in the complaint. Arraignment is this afternoon.
The new information alleged in the complaint is that Jane Doe was "unlawfully restrained" by Kizilay and an accomplice. There is no second person charged yet. I followed up with DA Stacey Eads who filed the complaint and EPD to see if there is a second suspect they are investigating. DA Eads responded, "Hi John, There is no accomplice. Thank you."
Around 12:55 p.m. today, Kizilay's brother was on the second floor of the Courthouse checking on what day and time Kizilay had court. According to Kizilay's brother, Kizilay was under the impression arraignment was tomorrow.
At arraignment, Ms. Kathleen Bryson was court appointed to represent Kizilay. OR bail is on 6/25; preliminary hearing on 7/3.
46 year old Juan Joseph Ferrer being arrested by Arcata Police Department for being drunk in public yesterday, five minutes before midnight. He was released on O.R.
This is newsworthy because he is the Juan Ferrer who was convicted on May 18, 2015 and a jury found him guilty of voluntary manslaughter in the death of Abruzzi chef Douglas Anderson.
I did extensive coverage of the Douglas Anderson case. You can access those posts via the search feature on that blog.
7/24: Arrested again by APD for public intoxication. Even after going to prison after what happened in 2015 has not deterred Ferrer from being drunk.
Mr. Allan Dollison is a retired Army Colonel. He has been a lawyer for 29 years and currently in private practice in Los Angeles. Many readers know him as a former Humboldt County Deputy District Attorney and private attorney.
He is a regular op-ed contributor in the Los Angeles based legal publication Daily Journal.
Since they insist on a paywall, Mr. Dollison has been kind enough to provide me some screenshots with excerpts of his column as someone who has served this country with legal analysis.

Yesterday, I reported on an arrest at Studio 6 in Eureka.
https://johnchiv.blogspot.com/2025/06/6-epd-vehicles-when-i-arrived-one.html?m=1
Today, the only arrest I see by EPD on the jail log around the time I walked up to Studio 6 is for 31 year old Jonathan Dakota Brisco. A person was already in a patrol car and then taken to the Humboldt County jail while I was reporting live from the scene. I reached out to EPD PIO Laura Montagna and she confirmed this was the Studio 6 suspect.
Brisco was booked for PC 422 criminal threats, PC 236 false imprisonment, PC 207 (a) kidnapping, PC 287 (c) (1) oral copulation with a minor and PC 21310 carrying a concealed dirk or dagger. Bail is $75,000.
Several sources told me Pritesh Patel owns Studio 6 in Eureka. I confirmed with the City of Eureka that Pritesh Patel is the owner of Studio 6 in Eureka.
4:57 p.m. I just walked up to Studio 6 on 4th street in Eureka and there are 6 EPD vehicles here. Commander Wayne Rabang is on scene, Sgt. Cory Crnich is on scene speaking to someone from the motel. I am not going to bother EPD in the middle of working and an active crime scene but I briefly spoke with Commander Rabang.
5:01 p.m. One officer left with a person in the back of a patrol car. Another officer is gathering and securing evidence. Commander Rabang told me this is a follow up investigation regarding criminal activity and recent crimes at the motel. One person associated with Motel was taken into custody.
5:25 p.m. HCSO and K9 Yahtzee on scene. I was there when EPD called them.
I did a post on June 12 from and about this location.
Mervin Lewis George III was supposed to be arraigned on Monday. Today, when I went to check on that case, the 6/23 date was vacated. Arraignment was advanced to this morning.
This was done very last minute because I checked on the case late Wednesday afternoon. The Courthouse and courts were closed yesterday.
27 year old Arda Kizilay arrested by Eureka Police Department yesterday on two felony charges. Bail is $90,000. I did reach out to EPD and in response to my question Commander Leonard LaFrance told me, "Yes. During our investigation, we confirmed he was a delivery service driver."
Adrian Lee Curtis was arrested by Eureka Police Department yesterday for PC 422(a) criminal threats and PC 273.5(a) corporal injury to a spouse or cohabitant.
The SCOTUS 6-3 ruling upholding Tennessee ban on puberty blockers and hormone therapy for transgender teenagers made headlines is not a surprise.
California is considered a leader in LGBTQ rights, protections with access to gender affirming care.
California Attorney General Rob Bonta sent out this press release today. I did not publish it because it makes no mention of the the decision by Children's Hospital of Los Angeles closing its Center for Transyouth Health and Development and Gender-Affirming Care surgical program.
You can google the reasons but most coverage refers to an email citing the changing political landscape or the Trump administration and only ABC7 that included other relevant information about funding, Medicaid and Medi-Cal.
In March, I did this post about a DUI arrest for attorney Ms. Anakalia Sullivan. DUI cases are a plenty in Humboldt County. I have covered local attorney Ms. Kathleen Bryson's DUI case and several other business people cases such as multiple DUIS by Eureka Natural Foods owner Rick Littlefield and arrests for DUIs by elected officials such as Brett Watson. I don't do selective coverage like other local media. Watson's case was dismissed after he completed his diversion.
Ms. Sullivan's arrest was after a very intense, long Widmark brother jury trial. As I wrote in March, this was a tough post for me to write as is covering this case.

District Attorney Stacey Eads filed the complaint with two misdemeanors and each count has a special allegation. Misdemeanor DUI cases often resolve early, have standard offers and this case could even end up being dismissed. Arraignment is on 6/24.
Yesterday, the California Commission on Judicial Performance issued a press release and notice stating the CJP has instituted formal proceedings concerning former Justice William J. Murray, Jr. of the California Court of Appeal, Third Appellate District. Former Justice Murray is represented by Attorney Andrew J. Waxler of Los Angeles.
I have added the press release. The notice of formal is 20 pages with exhibits. It can be viewed via the CJP website. I am have added the summary of charges relevant portions and the three counts. You have to actually read the details to see the seriousness and lives affected.
The City of Eureka's project to develop the vacant Crowley property on Hilfiker Lane is finally a reality. City staff have been busy for a week and today helping people off the street into units.
Eureka City Manager Miles Slattery told me, "There are 33 units, but can sleep up to 38. We currently have 14 tenants in place and are going to continue to add community members. Accomodations allowed for pets and couples too."
I briefly spoke to Betty Chinn and she said group by group, these people who are most vulnerable are now housed. She has been delivering food. Case management services are being provided by the City of Eureka and their partnership with organizations like Betty Chinn's Foundation.
