Rosado has been arrested for domestic battery multiple times; yet in his 2024 case he gets this plea deal?

 

Caleb Andrew Renton Rosado has a lot of cases and aliases. I have covered him before in 2022. I updated that post with the 2024 arrest. 

Rosado most recent 2024 case in which he was originally charged with domestic violence, battery and resisting an officer had trial confirmation on 9/12; jury trial scheduled for 9/23. Instead, Rosado resolved his case with a plea on 9/30 and was sentenced the same day by Retired Judge John Feeney. Plea deal included 3 counts dismissed, pleading guilty to Count 4 PC 148 which is still resisting but a different code than the original Count 4 but Rosado got to plead to it as a misdemeanor and custody credits covering time served.

Today, Yes on F sent out a press release which has more details than the recent mailer featuring two former Eureka mayors Nancy Fleming and Frank Jager. Susan Santsche, owner of The Spa at Personal Choice is quoted in the press release.

Told you last Wednesday before the County press release on Friday when The Grind would be opening. Today, Aelfe and Chloe are getting prepped for the soft opening tomorrow. Rotating daily specials, pastries baked fresh on premises for now and a self serve bar are just some of the options. Now in addition to Taste of Bim, the airport cafe, regulars like me have another option to support owner Gabrielle Long.

17 year old from Covelo arrested by MCSO for criminal threats

On 10-12-2024 at approximately 3:52 P.M., the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office was contacted by the Round Valley Tribal Police Department. Sheriff’s Deputies were advised of possible threats made toward the Round Valley High School and Elementary School. 

Thanks to Det. Vickman, a 4 year old missing child was located and is safe

 

On October 10, I reported that Peter Thompson had been booked into jail on a Ramey warrant for child abduction. HCSO issued a press release after that post. I also have updates on Thomoson's court case in that initial post. This morning, HCSO issued a press release and update. HCSO Det. Danielle Vickman's conversation led to locating the child who has been returned to legal guardians until CWS and Family Court determine future placement.

I have known Det. Vickman as a deputy, court bailiff and now detective through covering Humboldt Superior Court and she is definitely an asset to HCSO and Humboldt. The photo above is from when she was recognized as Employee of the Month.

Any local lawyer or media worth their salt would have done due diligence in the chicken farm vs Alexandre Family Farm lawsuit

I saw the lawsuit filed by Legal Impact for Chickens on September 30 against Alexandre Family Farm LLC. Besides being extremely busy, I didn't rush to post on it for various reasons. I don't allow anyone to use me. I develop my own leads. I do my due diligence. And, credibility matters to me. I have covered Humboldt Superior Court for 10 years. People and lawyers trust my reporting because I have earned it. I can smell an agenda miles away and this chicken lawsuit reeks worse than cow dung.

Who will prevail in this lawsuit or what the final outcome will be remains to be seen. I don't have a  a cow in this fight. What I do know is that I have zero interest in covering a lawsuit that smacks of personal agendas, drama in the local farming and ranching industry and what should be obvious to anyone with a brain which is that the Alexandres are the only one being singled out and targeted. Is every other rancher or farmer in Humboldt and Del Norte counties perfect and never had any alleged issues or complaints? 

One of two lawsuits filed against Shamus T Bones dismissed but without prejudice

I have been the only one to report on two lawsuits involving Shamus T Bones. One was filed in 2022 case; the other in 2023.

I often add updates to previous posts especially in civil cases where often there are just continuances and nothing significant to report. 

In CV2200044, Martha Gonzalez v Shamus and Chris Barry, the Case Management Conference scheduled for 9/30 was vacated. The case was dismissed without prejudice on 8/30/24. This means it can be refiled.

Out of the 3 new hires, Deputy DA Buckley-Stein has an impressive resume and the qualifications to join the current team of experienced prosecutors

Listed below is a bio from the Penn State Alumni Association for Ms. Rebecca Ann Buckley-Stein. She is one of the three new hires at the Humboldt County District Attorney office. From November 2022 to September 2024, Ms. Buckley-Stein was managing attorney at Legal Services of Northern California in Eureka until she was started at the DA's office.

She already had a plus because I am also a former Pennsylvanian who moved to California but it is her bio and experience which is impressive. Whoever recruited her or made the decision to hire Ms. Buckley-Stein finally picked someone with experience and specifically the kind needed for the bulk of cases that need a prosecutor with her background.

I did a post on the new hires two days ago. I wrote in that post,"given Ms Buckley-Stein's resume, she should be in court with Deputy DAs Roger Rees, Trent Timm or Whitney Timm."

Another DUI case, another defendant with multiple aliases

Ryan Ray was arrested in July 2024 for  VC23152 (a) DUI and VC 23152(b) BAC over legal limit. He was released on OR. The DA finally filed charges  on 9/19/24. I have been so busy that I have not had a chance to do this post until today. 

Arraignment is on 10/23. The DA has charged Ray with two misdemeanor counts Count 1 VC23152 (a) and Count 2 VC23152 (b).

Thank you Judge Cockrum for letting Analia Martinez know there are consequences for repeat behavior, multiple arrests and violation of court orders

Analia Martinez was arraigned on 10/8 for her latest arrest in CR2402981 which was filed on 10/8/24. The charge is Count 1 PC 273.6 (a) violating a court order. The Public Defender is also representing her on this 2024 case. Bail was set at $10,000 in this latest case. As of October 12, Martinez is still in custody. If you read my previous coverage, time will tell if her family and friends will bail her out and still continue to support her.

Family Nails and spa suspect finally charged by DA with an arraignment date next month

Paul Casanas was arrested on March 2, 2024 by Eureka Police Department for VC23152(f) driving under the influence of drugs and VC 14601.2(a) driving with a suspended license due to a DUI offense. He was released on O.R.

Casanas is the suspect in the Family Nails and Spa incident. In the initial post I did on him, I have exclusive details including his prior convictions for drugs and unlawful sex with a minor. 

I have been regularly checking on his case and the DA finally filed charges on 10/10/24 and they are the same as the booking charges. Arraignment is scheduled on 11/6. 

EHS bomb threat impacted "Little Red's" fourth case , he got a plea deal with guarantee of probation and no additional jail time and a Cruz waiver for stealing from Old Navy

 

I thought Shane Campbell aka Juggalo aka Little Red was all done with his current cases so I was surprised to see his name on the court calendar yesterday. There was a fourth case filed on 9/30, the very same day he was sentenced in three other cases. I reported on those resolutions.

First HCSO, now EPD?

 

This does not come as a surprise to me. It is exactly what I expected after the Ninth Circuit's idiotic ruling on pre trial booking photos.

First, HCSO refuses my request for a booking photo of a suspect charged with violent crimes against a minor on incorrect information.

Now EPD refuses a request again of a dangerous repeat offender which is a cop out. Until, the Ninth Circuit ruling, EPD released their own booking photos, not HCSO.

Yurok Tribal HHS has new Wraparound Program

The Yurok Health and Human Services Tribal Child Welfare Department has a new Wraparound Program. 

Eureka High School bomb threat investigation ongoing, EPD says threat did not come from EHS student

 

Eureka Police Department and Eureka High School issued a joint statements on bomb threats this week. EPD also issued another press release. 

EPD dealt with the bomb threats this week and officers still had to respond to other calls and show up for court hearings. I will be posting on a court case impacted because EPD Officer Ryan Flowers was called away to EHS. 

Lee Ulansey in court for the criminal case, another restraining order granted in civil case against Daniel Epperson

 

Today, the defense's second request to continue the petition for mental health  diversion for alleged criminal and hate crime suspect Daniel Epperson was granted and the new date is 11/8. There is a protective order in the criminal case. Epperson's 2023 VOP case is trailing.

One of the alleged victims Lee Ulansey was in court today. I saw him briefly outside Courtroom 3 after the hearing had concluded. Karen Brooks was also present in court to support the Ulansey family. I posted graphic, anti semitic texts Epperson sent in the case involving the Ulanseys.

Epperson has also picked up another case. A petition for civil harassment restraining order was filed by Melody Islam against Epperson on 9/19/24. The petition contains vulgar, racial, sexual language used by Epperson. There was a hearing scheduled in that case in Courtroom 8 today. Epperson was not present because he is in custody and his criminal case scheduled at the same time in Courtroom 3. Commissioner Sarah Kaber granted the restraining order for 3 years.

Three new Deputy DAs hired by Humboldt District Attorney

I first mentioned one of the new Humboldt Deputy DAs hired this year in August 2024  post about Callie Buck's case. That would be Stuart Williams.

There are a couple of newer Deputy DAs I saw yesterday going to court yesterday with colleagues. In court, I saw Frank Olivares consult with Deputy DA Trent Timm as he appeared on a case. On the second floor, Deputy DA Andy Truitt was with  Deputy DA Rebecca Ann Buckley-Stein. Most hires start out handling misdemeanor cases but given Ms Buckley-Stein's resume, she should be in court with Deputy DAs Roger Rees, Trent Timm or Whitney Timm.

I was correct about Michael Casey resigning, David Nims to leave PD and go over to Conflict Counsel

In my October 5, post, I wrote that I was pretty sure it was former Deputy Conflict Counsel Michael Casey who resigned. That was just my observation at the courthouse.

Yesterday, I found out I was correct about Casey. He is also the first person to update his state bar profile promptly. I also learned that David Nims who left Janssen Malloy to go over to the Public Defender's office will be heading over to Conflict Counsel. 

At 3:02, Mr. Nims himself told me that tomorrow is his last day at the PD's office and next Monday is his first day with Conflict Counsel. Referring to the post I did on this Tuesday's BOS agenda, Mr. Nims said, "I have always empathized with that office." The BOS expited the transfer and waived the hiring freeze, Mr. Nims said.

I also reported in November 2023, Conflict Counsel would be moving into a building on 515 J street which is co-owned by Larry Doss. It had been sitting empty for years since Eureka Payments vacated the upstairs space and then Fidelity left the downstairs space later.
