Peter Nathaniel Norton has been booked for PC 187 (a) murder. HCSO says adult male victim's identity being witheld until next of kin is notified. Norton admitted to shooting the victim during an altercation.

On October 14, 2022, the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office was notified of an alleged juvenile sexual assault in the McKinleyville area. 

Who do you trust City of Arcata's or Brett Watson's investigator?

I looked up both the City of Arcata and Arcata Councilmember Brett Watson's investigators to see of they had a license. The rest of the local media regurgitated press releases and information without even bothering to do a simple Google search.

I just turned down an ad from Arcata City Councilmember Brett Watson so I could continue to bring you independent reporting. It is not money I could afford to turn away. I did not do it because there was any pressure from Watson but I am covering his TRO hearing which is scheduled right before an election. The appearance of an ad from him is inappropriate.

Tanya Brooks arrested for aggravated sexual assault of a child

 

Tanya Marie Brooks was arrested yesterday by Humboldt County District Attorney Ryan Hill for PC 664/269(a) (1), aggravated sexual assault of a child.

Bail was set at $35,000 .Conflict Counsel's office was appointed. OR/bail on 10/26; preliminary hearing on 11/7.

The City of Arcata requested a continuance on the hearing where Judge Timothy Canning will decide if the temporary restraining order against Arcata Councilmember Brett Watson will be made permanent, modified or dismissed.

Judge Canning's  order granting this request says witness unavailability. Another document says it is because Arcata City attorney Nancy Diamond, a witness, has a pre paid vacation.

Instead of he said, she said, here are court documents, the request for restraining order, declaration of Arcata City Manager Karen Diemer and response by Watson. I am not posting his entire 70 page attachment.

When you sign a declaration it is under penalty of perjury. Same standards for a response to court, appearing in court and testifying.

"I got paid to kill him. The killing was on me."

 

It took 8 days to pick a jury in this case. The jury consists of 7 women and 5 men. There are two alternate jurors; one man one woman.

Opening statements proceeded this morning in alleged gang member Isreal Nathaniel Soria's jury trial.

Alleged pimp's motion to supress in second 2022 case denied

 

On 10/17, at a pre trial hearing in Javier Akeem Ruiz-Keyes pimping case people's motion to consolidate was granted. Motion to dismiss is scheduled for 10/27. Trial confirmation is scheduled for 10/31; jury trial for 11/7.

In his other case on 10/17, Ruiz-Keyes was held to answer after his  preliminary hearing. Defense motion to supress was denied. Arraignment on information is scheduled for 10/31.

A hearing is scheduled on November 4 to address the temporary restraining order filed by the City of Arcata against Councilmember Brett Watson. 

Convicted felon sentenced to stipulated 9 years in prison

On September 14, convicted felon Cody Christiansen accepted the People's offer of 9 years and entered a conditional plea to Count 1 PC 245 (b) assault with a semi automatic rifle, PC 12022.5 firearm used in the commission of a crime (a) one of the special allegations to Count 1 and Count 4 PC 273 (d) (a) inflicting cruel or inhuman corporal punishment or an injury on a child resulting in a traumatic condition.

Sentencing was continued from  October 5 to today.  Christiansen was sentenced to 9 years in prison, as stipulated.

Extra bailiffs in court for Melissa Johnson's sentencing

 

Melissa Johnson's sentencing had already been continued twice. Today, sentencing is finally proceeding. Johnson was ordered by Judge Christopher Wilson to appear in person. Johnson is in court right now standing next to her attorney.She is convicted murderer Mauricio Johnson's mother.
