County staff says approve the Rocci Costa Blue Lake cannabis project

A year ago, there was opposition by some neighbors to Rocci and Laura Costa, the applicants for a 10,000-square-foot open-air cannabis farm way out Warren Creek Road, west of Blue Lake. A year later Humboldt County staff recommends approving the project.

Other items on the agenda for the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors includes an item by  Second District Supervisor Michelle Bushnell about opening board meetings to the public.

The staff report says many counties have successfully continued to hold in person meetings following pandemic guidelines.

"Thank you SO MUCH to Melynda Blaine and the kind folks over at Faith Center Foursquare Church for donating these thoughtful cruiser bags for our deputies. Each bag contains snacks and much needed encouragement for our men and women. Thank you for your continued support."

With decommissioning complete, PG& E files request to terminate Humboldt Bay Power Plant license

Current filing asking for use for "residential farming" with a quote from Rex Bohn on how this is significant boost for the Humboldt economy.

Good for who? Rex? The County?  PG & E? Use for Humboldt's definition of "residential farming" and preferred crop? Those details are absent in the press release.

More taxes and fees for government agencies and local officials who can't think of a local economy that is not based on gambling, drugs, alcohol and government subsidies. Government spends taxpayer money like it is their personal Monopoly bank.

HSU and IT address an issue prevalent in Humboldt and nationwide

This is the kind of leadership and issues that should be shown and addressed by Humboldt County Board of Supervisors and every city in the County.

Housing is an issue nationwide, a disaster in California and worse in Humboldt.

The problem of a lack of housing, lack of affordable housing and unfair application of laws against decent landlords and decent tenants is useless politicians and who they protect and what they tolerate. The government can't even distribute money to those who need it, even in a pandemic, and fraud is rampant because of government agencies not doing their job or being held accountable.

If prison did not deter this criminal, Humboldt jail certainly won't change him

His appeal about a prison sentence and previous Humbildt conviction failed.

First mask related criminal conviction in Orange County

Yesterday, a jury found a registered nurse from San Juan Capistrano, guilty of misdemeanor trespassing and obstructing a business or its customers. The woman refused to wear a mask or leave a Costa Mesa supermarket. This is the first mask related criminal conviction in Orange County.

Cass Bell could have responded and factually made a statement. Instead, he responded with an immature, dick move. If this is how he responds to a message, what self control does he have around kids?

Cass Bell could have responded and factually made a statement. Instead, he responded with an immature, dick move. Bell showed his true colors with his emoji to my response.

If this is how he responds to a message, what self control does he have when he is in person and upset? Why shouldn't there be concerns if he is around kids? His criminal history shows a lack of self control. Has he changed?

He choose to attack the person who contacted me. That person did not personally say anything about Bell. He brought up Bell's criminal history. Fact. He said he knew Bell. Fact.

Why can't the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors and city of Eureka show some leadership and give law enforcement the same tools to house people as well as keep communities and businesses safe?

Posted below excerpts from a Los Angeles Times article. In the entire article, there is no mention of what the new laws are. Besides that error, if you read the article, there is information about resources, giving notice and providing housing.

If LA can keep their streets clear so people can walk safely to work their homes and to use public sidewalks; why can't the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors and city of Eureka show some leadership and give law enforcement the same tools to house people as well as keep communities and businesses safe?

Another win for DA, another guilty jury verdict

Courtroom 3 jury verdict at 4:15 today on a DUI case. Defendant Alexandra Hurley. Guilty on counts and special allegation found true.

This booking photo is from 08/05/2009. There is also a booking for 9/28/2019 but no photo. I will have to see who the arresting agency was for that incident because EPD takes their own booking photos.

After I spoke with this person, he told me the school has not given a clear answer to him whether the coach has been hired or is in process of being hired, whether background checks and fingerprinting is outstanding but he believes the job offer was made last Tuesday.

There are a lot of hard working, decent people in this community.  Every single one of you makes a positive difference. Thank you for being you.

"A lot of our cooks, when we had to lay off a percentage of them during COVID, they found work in construction because construction was booming and they're not coming back. They like working outdoors not over a hot stove."

After the pandemic, there are staffing shortages and some industries such as retail, hospitality and restaurants are struggling more than others. An article from NBC in Los Angeles confirmed what people informally know. Some people have moved on to better paying jobs.

In Humboldt, healthcare and hospitals are offering people better paying jobs. Restaurant workers and housekeepers have left their old jobs. The people still working are working longer hours, more shifts and under more stress. The real cause of why there are these vacancies is not addressed in staffing shortage articles.

Steve Wright awarded $240,000 plus in malpractice lawsuit against local attorney Andrew Stunich

I have written about Steve Wright's malpractice lawsuit against local Andrew Stunich for two years. Finally, today, some closure.

Last week, after we had a trial “readiness” conference with the judge on Friday (everyone was there), Stunich did not show for the trial (on the following Tuesday). Default judgement .$240,000+ awarded," said Wright.

"I will never see a penny."The State Bar is stone walling the case."

Wright has sent me many emails documenting his correspondence for months; years. You think the State Bar would take a complaint against an attorney who had a reproval from them and conviction seriously.

"The fund that is supposed to help victim’s  like us, the State Bar Client Security Fund says they won’t even put us into the que until the Disciplinary action is complete and even then there are over 2500 claims ahead of us so expect 3 years or more.  The fund folks stress, “they have nothing to do with the discipline AND discipline has to be competed before the “FUND” will do anything”.

"YELP has a review from a woman that describes the same treatment from Stunich: took our money and did nothing."

Natlie, Kim, who is next Leslie Castellano?

Fourth District Supervisor Virginia Bass has not said whether she is running for re-election. Eureka Councilmember Natalie Arroyo said she is running for the position. Now Eureka Councilmember Kim Bergel wants the job.
