The Humboldt Unitarian Universalist Fellowship and a few people are standing on 5th and V streets right now. They have been at the corner on weekends there have bern protests and the one sign I have seen each time is the "Black Lives Matter" sign.

John Karl Sieger identified as deceased individual from yesterday's officer involved shooting

Following next of kin notification, the Eureka Police Department (EPD) has identified the deceased individual from yesterday’s officer-involved shooting incident as John Karl Sieger (age 51) of Eureka.

I did a post earlier today about the California Judicial Council considering rescinding the temporary emergency rules on evictions and foreclosures.

Two new COVID 19 cases reported today, alert level raised to three

Humboldt County’s confirmed COVID-19 case count now stands at 205, after two new cases were reported today.

State guidance encourages businesses to report positive cases to Public Health directly to increase the effectiveness of contact tracing, and work closely with local health officials to contain potential outbreaks.

Freedom Foundation requests emergency stay of Oregon mandatory mask rule

The Freedom Foundation, filed a lawsuit earlier in July challenging Washington’s mandatory mask rule. On July 22, the Freedom Foundation requested an emergency stay with the Oregon State Court of Appeals to prevent Governor Kate Brown from imposing a similar edict in the Beaver State.

Bars and dine in restaurants are not reopening, statewide closure remains in effect

The Humboldt County Joint Information Center has received multiple calls about false texts and news reports announcing the reopening of bars and dine-in restaurants. These reports are incorrect. A statewide closure of these facilities remains in effect per state orders.

CA Judicial Council will soon consider rescinding temporary emergency rules 1 and 2 on evictions and foreclosures , which could take effect as early as August 14

At its July 24 meeting, the Judicial Council approved the allocation of funding to the trial courts included in the fiscal year 2020–21 state budget.

If you are having issues with the phone system for Humboldt Superior Court, keep trying to get through

Just tried calling the Humboldt Superior Court clerk's phone number (707) 445-7256. Keep getting an error message that "this extension cannot be reached at this time."

Finally got through to the wrong department and couldn't get anywhere but got put in the que. When I spoke to the second employee, James, he was very helpful.

$90,000 bail for Mario Garcia who is in custody

On July 24, 2020, at about 04:22 a.m., officers with the Eureka Police Department located Mario Garcia walking in the vicinity of Hodgson Street and J Street.  Garcia was taken into custody without incident.

He was booked in the Humboldt County Jail on the following charges: PC 215(a), PC 207(a), PC 245 (a)(1), PC 211, PC422, VC 10851, VC 487, PC 243 and PC 1203.2 and being held on $90,000 bail.

This was the PRA request I sent to Humboldt County on July 13. The press release that was sent out to all media on July 17 was after my PRA request.

Received this email today.  It is always nice to receive these emails or messages in person. I have excluded the name of the sender and the personal greeting to me.

This adds a different perspective into Ewa Misztal. More importantly, at this time, it was a good reminder of the decency and kindness in humanity.

Despite mental health on scene, man making suicidal threats, aimed firearm at officers

I checked with EPD Crime Analyst Brittany Powell who said no press conference scheduled today. This is Ms. Powell's day off so I had also contacted EPD Chief Steve Watson's assistant Katie Hill. She responded, "There is currently not a press conference planned.  The department is looking a doing a video/press release next week."
