Alleged molestor Mark Dare's jury trial was scheduled for October 28. Deputy District Attorney Carolyn Schaffer filed a motion yesterday to amend the complaint.

Convicted sex offender Daron Bagley won't be in the local jail for long

Daron Lee Bagley booked into the local jail yesterday for PC 290.012 (a),failure to register as a sex offender will be transported to prison to start serving his 16 month sentence. Bagley entered a plea in his 2018 Humboldt case in September 2019.

HCSO responding on Big Lagoon Park Road with warrant service for weapons

HCSO units are responding to Big Lagoon Park Road code 3, CHP assisted with warrant service on five individuals. They are uncooperative. One warrant is for weapons,according to dispatch.

The property is behind a locked gate so they have to walk in.

Large amount of cash seized from vehicle belonging to reckless driving suspect

On October 22, 2019 at about 12:16 p.m., an Officer of the Eureka Police Department (EPD) observed a grey Toyota truck traveling southbound in the center turn lane at approximately 60 MPH near the 2700 block of Broadway.

As I reported earlier this morning, Connor Whited was arraigned this afternoon for the murder of Brett Keiling.  He is also charged with a special allegation that he used a deadly weapon; a club.

Missing person in Garberville found deceased

On 10-23-2019, at about 7:00 AM, the Sheriff’s Office conducted follow up on a previous report of a missing person near the 3000 block of Sawmill Rd. in Garberville.

Connor Whited, suspect in Brett Keiling's murder, used a club

Connor Whited will be arraigned this afternoon.

Whited is charged with Count 1 Murder and a special allegation that he used a deadly weapon, a club. Victim is Brett Keiling.

Two juveniles in custody after Fortuna PD receives information on a "possible plot"

On the afternoon of October 22, 2019 Fortuna Police Department and Fortuna High School received information of a possible plot between two Fortuna High School students to harm other students at Fortuna High School.  The two students were quickly detained and information found on their persons indicating validity to the original report.  The two students were taken into custody and are currently being held in Juvenile Hall.

No charges filed by today's deadline, so Sherae gets released without posting bail

Sherae O' Shaughnessy was arrested by HCSO for PC 243 (e) 1 domestic battery on a spouse/cohabitant. Bail at booking was $25,000.

Mistrial declared for Elhadji Ba, Judge denies release from custody

Yesterday, the jury in Elhadji Ba's case was "hopelessly deadlocked."  Today, despite further deliberation, there was no change.

Alleged molestor released from custody with conditions, late discovery from Fortuna PD played a part in the decision

Preliminary hearing  scheduled this morning for alleged molestor Patrick Marshall was rescheduled to November 6. Both sides were ready to proceed but that changed very quickly.

Alleged molestor Patricio Segura did not look thrilled, despite an offer to resolve his case

Trial confirmation was scheduled for alleged molestor Patricio Segura this morning. Another court date was scheduled for October 28 due to "ongoing settlement discussions."

Segura did not seem too thrilled about the proposed offer.

HCSO steals Shawn Sopoaga from EPD

Shawn Sopoaga initially started out working at the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office. Then he went over to Eureka Police Department.

He is going to work as a Special Services Lieutenant and will have authority over the Drug Task Force marijuana enforcement team search and rescue and the posse.

Another sex offender fails to register, off the streets thanks to EPD

William Gail Potter was arrested by Eureka Police Department for failure to register as a sex offender. According to EPD Crime Analyst Brittany Powell, Potter was "arrested for failure to register upon release from incarceration. 

Ba jury "hopelessly deadlocked" on sexual battery with restraint,told to further deliberate

Elhadji Ba is charged with felony sexual battery by restraint. The jury was also given a lesser options of misdemeanor sexual battery, simple battery and simple assault.
