Second charge added in murder suspect Brandon Watson's case for alleged assault on a different victim


Motion to file first amended complaint in murder suspect Brandon Watson's case was continued to 2 p.m. this afternoon. Watson's attorney, Ms. Andrea Sullivan objected to the motion.

During his testimony on direct examination by Ms. Andrea Sullivan, Michael Black said he had never seen Mrs. Russ Clanton before May 8. He said he tried to record his conversation with Russ Clanton but Clanton "kicked his phone and broke it."

Crystal Bigham, a staff person at Forbes and Associates in Trinidad said she didn't know Black. The first time she saw him was May 15, 2018. She said she did not know Russ Clanton but she had heard of him. Yet, she took it upon herself to write a unsolicited letter to the DA about a visit with Black.

Russ Clanton was the second witness for the People. While his wife was anxious, his rage at Michael Black was obvious and Clanton even addressed that in his testimony.

The People's first witness is the Michael Black case was Vickie Hawkins-Clanton, Russ Clanton's wife. When she testified in court, she was addressed as  Hawkins. She has testified in court before.

In her opening statement, Ms. Andrea Sullivan, Michael Black's attorney told jurors, "On May 8 of last year, my client made a lot of mistakes and poor choices. The one thing he didn't do is make criminal threats. The only person who was in real danger of being hurt and killed was Mr. Black."

Deputy District Attorney A.J. Kamada started his opening statement by telling the jurors in Michael Black's case that what his opening statement was not evidence but "what I anticipate witnesses and going to say and what the evidence will show."

It was about 1:20 p.m, jurors for Courtroom 2 and others people waiting for Courtroom 1 to open were crowded in the small waiting area in between the two courtrooms. I walked in on a cell phone conversation.

The first EPD press release made it very clear why an inspection and criminal search was being done on Bayshore Way. Verdict in for Mario Alexander case, guilty on all counts


Day 2 of jury deliberations in alleged molestor Mario Alexander's case. Jury started deliberating at 9:30, left for lunch at 11:30. They came back after lunch and they reached a verdict shortly after 3 p.m.

Sentencing is February 28 at 8:30 a.m.

Jury selection was completed yesterday in Michael Black's case. He is the man charged with making criminal threats against local attorney Russ Clanton. Black is also a former client of Mr. Clanton's and a neighbor.

On Jan. 24, 2019, at about 4 a.m., Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a residence on the 1400 block of Skunk Hollow Road in Orleans for the report of a home invasion armed robbery that had just occurred.
