The same firm used by City of Eureka in lawsuit against Squires hit with a class action lawsuit & loss of contract


Silver and Wright is a firm used by the City of Eureka. Other cities in California also use this law firm.  They have been in the news lately.

This is the same firm representing the City of Eureka in their lawsuit against Betty and Floyd Squires.

Opening statements and testimony in the Jon Goldberg case could begin as early as Monday


Second day of jury selection in the Jon Goldberg case. Today, Jon Goldberg was dressed in a blue jacket.

Twelve jurors and five alternates have been seated and Judge Cribbs, Deputy District Attorney Luke Bernthal and Deputy Public Defender Casey Russo questioned the jurors.

Antone Aubrey charged with murder and felon in possession of a firearm


Antone Aubrey was arraigned this afternoon. He is charged with Count 1 murder; special allegation personal and intentional discharge of a firearm causing great bodily injury. Count 2 is felon in possession of a firearm.

Victim is his sister Angel Aubrey. Bail increased to one million, 50,000.

Judge grants restraining order preventing Randall Cook from having any contact with his grandaughter for three years


Randall Cook's ex daughter in law, Veronica Cook  filed a request for restraining order to prevent any contact between him and her daughter. That request was granted on 2/15.

Arraignment with added charge for Michael Eshghipour completed today


Arraignment had been continued to February 21 for Michael Eshghipour. It was completed today. Not guilty plea entered; 10 and 60 day time waiver entered.

On February 20, 2018, Fortuna Police Department Detectives arrested a 79 year old Fortuna resident after receiving information that she was selling methamphetamine out of her residence.

Jon Goldberg case switches courtroom for jury selection

Questioning of individual jurors has concluded. Jury selection is scheduled to start in the Jon Goldberg case and they have temporarily switched to Courtroom 1 since it is bigger. Goldberg is dressed in a black business suit. Since he has been in custody, he has cut his hair and trimmed that goatee.

There was no assault on Fifth street tonight; two were arrested for illegal lodging at a Squires property


There was no alleged or possible assault on Fifth Street  earlier tonight. A man and woman were arrested for illegal lodging at a Squires' owned building.

According to EPD, they broke into the abandoned building to sleep in the cold.

Reporting party that called initially did not have accurate information.
