Employees get special bonuses and $15 minimum wage after passage of Republican tax plan


  • Fifth Third and AT&T are paying employees special bonuses after getting tax cuts under the Republican tax plan.
  • Wells Fargo said Wednesday that it would boost minimum wages for employees to $15 an hour, following Fifth Third's similar announcement.

Bail set at one million, one hundred thousand for Hugo Parral-Aguirre


Bail set at one million, one hundred thousand for Hugo Parral-Aguirre. Retired Judge Bruce Watson set bail at one million dollars; $500,000 for each count of attempted murder.

Judge Watson initially blew off Deputy District Attorney Joshua Rosenfeld's request to set a separate bail amount for Count 4.

Hugo Parral Aguirre charged with four counts including attempted murder of Deputy Freixas

Hugo Parral-Aguirre is charged with attempted murder of Deputy Rosalie Freixas; attempted murder of Carol Fuentes;  false imprisonment of Courtney Schlapicohl and assault with a firearm on Sgt. Greg Musson.

Arraignment is scheduled in Courtroom 2. Two family members were inquiring about Aguirre and after speaking to the court clerk, went into Courtroom 2. They expressed concern about Aguirre and asked the court clerk when they could see and speak to him.


The D.A. finally received HCSO report on Aguirre. This gives them only a couple hours to review and file charges by today

The D.A.'s office had not received the report from HCSO as of 11 a.m. for Hugo Parral-Aguirre. They did receive it right before lunch. No charges filed yet. They have until 2 p.m. to file a late arraignment.

If Aguirre is not arraigned by today, he will be released from custody.

Jon Goldberg wants to withdraw his time waiver for his 2016 case


Jon Goldberg has a hearing scheduled on 12/28 in his 2016 case and the hearing is withdraw his time waiver.

In this case, he is charged with the murder of Tim Smith.

Will David Kobak, charged with the murder of his roommate, waive his preliminary hearing?


David Kobak, charged with the murder of his roommate had intervention scheduled on 12/19. It was continued to today. New dates are Intervention on January 17. Preliminary January 22.

Humboldt's future: Green rush or senior rush?

Preliminary hearing for Judson Stiglich and Amanda Brown rescheduled for January 29


Intervention was scheduled yesterday for Judson Stiglich and Amanda Brown. The preliminary hearing for Stiglich's for December 20 was vacated.

Several community members spoke in support of Supervisor Rex Bohn's letter. Others in support of Supervisor Virginia Bass' letter.

End result: Humboldt will not be a  "safe injection" site.

Neil McKinnon arrested in August , and now again for same crimes


According to jail reports, on August 16, 2017, Deputy Scott Aponte arrested Neil Logan McKinnon, 1800 block of Holly Drive. One report listed the charge as assault and battery; the other PC 368 (b) (1) elder abuse.

More charges filed against PG & E gate crasher Katherine Zacevich


The District Attorney's office finally filed charges against Katherine Zacevich. These charges are from her new arrests since she has been out of custody.

"Unfortunately, because I am a victim of your conduct, I will be unable to participate in the major civil suit that I am certain will be filed against you personally and the City of Eureka."

This is one statement out of a four page letter sent by former Humboldt County Superior Court Judge John R. Morrison to Brian Gerving (City of Eureka Building Department), with a cc to Mayor Frank Jager and the City Attorney.

No priors in Humboldt for Hugo Parral-Aguirre; bail set at $500,000


Hugo Parral-Aguirre has no priors in Humboldt. One infraction/traffic case filed in 2008 that was dismissed.

His bail is currently $500, 000 for Sunday's arrest.
