Maybe if Humboldt Judges made kidnapping suspect Chai Her face consequences, he would not keep breaking the law

Chai Her was arrested yesterday by EPD on a
new charge for PC 29800 (a) 1, possession of a firearm by a felon. He was also booked on his 2019 case. No bail.

Her is charged with Count 1, kidnapping; the alleged victim is Jennifer Talynn Hurn. Count 2 is False imprisonment by violence; alleged victim is Hurn. Count 3 is Fleeing a pursuing peace officer's motor vehicle while driving recklessly; special allegation for Count 3 is that Her has a prior conviction of a serious or violent felony or juvenile adjudication.

Preliminary hearing for the 2019 case is scheduled for September 29.

Since Her bailed out, he has several failures to appear, bench warrants keep getting recalled and dates reset. The People have made offers that Her has yet to accept.

It is time for the Humboldt Superior Court Judges to have protect the public, have Her face consequences and keep him in custody until he has a preliminary hearing. Law enforcement resources are wasted chasing down Her who either shows up after his hearing or on the wrong day and now he has another arrest on a new charge.

Deputy Conflict Counsel Owen Tipps is Her's attorney. Deputy District Attorney Shelly Small appeared for the People.
