After five days of testimony, this afternoon a Superior Court Judge ruled there was insufficient evidence to hold Kyle Zoellner in the death of David Josiah Lawson.
The following are statements from Arcata Vice-Mayor Sofia Pereira and Police Chief Tom Chapman:
Vice-Mayor Pereira: "My thoughts are with the Lawson family, our community and the students at HSU. We continue to grieve and search for answers to this senseless act of violence. The city and the police department's focus must continue to remain on achieving justice for Josiah. I have been in communication with the Police Chief and I know our officers are continuing their work on this case. Once the investigation is complete the city will also review all aspects of our response to this tragedy. I have confidence in our police department's dedication to solve this murder and I support their efforts to find the truth."
Any word on what is being done about the Brothers United group at HSU? Is the club still active and have the students been expelled? I don't want my tax dollars or tuition money funding a hate group. Some pretty damning evidence came out against them this week, so I would really hope they would take action. You can guarantee they would if it were a predominately white fraternity.
ReplyDeleteInterviews with HSU officials on this would make for an interesting article. I would love to investigate that a bit and put an article together, but I'm in a position where it just wouldn't be appropriate. I would be happy to send a journalist the contact information for those HSU officials responsible for the clubs though. They deserve a good questioning over this.
I will find out for you and contact HSU Monday. My contact information is on the blog, if you wish to send a confidential email.
DeleteI think there are a lot of people whom have been wondering the same thing. Thank you John for taking this on. I look forward to hear/read what you find out, if they are willing to speak about it?!?!?
ReplyDeleteYou go, APD! Just a couple thoughts: Maybe don't report that a witness identified particular person when the witness did no such thing. And I am sure it's not too late to get a warrant and search the party house to see if there is any evidence that the knife came from that kitchen.
