"Dude, I love you. You are my friend. I shot somebody, I need help"

Steve Shapiro considers Jon Goldberg a friend. He said he had known Goldberg for " 7 to 9" years.

Shapiro knows Jon Goldberg's parents, siblings, aunts and uncles. He knew Jon Goldberg's grandmother. He had worked for Jon Goldberg on projects.

They worked on projects, socialized, cooked for each other and were close in the beginning.

Shapiro had socialized with both Jon and Rachel Goldberg but in the last two years due to working elsewhere and distancing partly because of Rachel Goldberg, he did not see Jon Goldberg as much as before.

Deputy District Attorney Luke Bernthal made a big deal of mentioning that Shapiro helped Jon Goldberg construct structures to  grow marijuana.

On September 26, Shapiro was sitting on the couch when he heard the gate and saw Jon Goldberg struggling to open the gate. He went outside.

Shapiro testified  that Jon Goldberg said, "Dude, I love you. You are my friend. I shot somebody, I need help"

After Deputy District Attorney Luke Bernthal asked me for the nth time about this statement again, Shapiro said,
"Dude, I love you. You are my bro. I shot somebody, I need help"

The one inconsistency Shapiro can't just talk his way out of is what happened after Goldberg got to his house and whether Goldberg drove there in his van.

In one version Goldberg didnt have his van, Shapiro tried to talk Goldberg  into turning himself in, then drove Goldberg home.

In another version, Goldberg had his van, Shapiro followed him to the Venue of the Giants, Shapiro tried to talk Goldberg  into turning himself in, then drove Goldberg home.

After he took Goldberg home, Shapiro came home, drank tequila and then a couple of hours later, went to Fortuna Police Department. He offered to bring Goldberg in to the police station. "I did not want my friend to get killed."

Shapiro's wife came and took him home.

After this happened, Shapiro said he drank for a week.
