Former Miss Hoopa's trial may be continued again if she decides to get a new attorney

At the last court hearing, jury trial was set for former Miss Hoopa, Kayla Brown.
Depending on expert witness availability, there was a possibility that dates would be rescheduled today at trial confirmation.

Brown had retained private attorney Ben McLaughlin, who is now with a deputy Public Defender.

While her jury trial remains set for now, Mr. McLaughlin told Judge John Feeney that he briefly spoke with Brown's mother and she is unsure whether they want to retain private counsel or have him remain on the case with Brown becoming a Public Defender client. Defense expert will not be available for the November 27 trial.

Confirmation of counsel is set at the same trial assignment on Wednesday, November 22. If Mr. McLaughlin is still Brown's attorney, he will file a written motion to continue, which was requested by the People. Deputy District Attorney Carolyn Schaffer asked that the defendant be ordered to appear next week. She also said People are ready to proceed.

Brown's jury trial  is scheduled for November 27.

Brown is charged with charged with four counts of alleged abuse including abnormal sexual interest in children. Alleged victim is a female minor.
