Don't blame the garbage, the cigarette butts, the filth around town on the homeless

Blame it on those responsible for it.

Last year, took a walk around with former Chief Andy Mills and observed all of this in downtown and Old Town Eureka. This year, it is worse. I know it is Fall but the leaves are just a seasonal addition to inches of dust, cigarette butts, soiled clothes and discarded needles.

The stuff dumped by the car above is today. Just yesterday evening, garbage, empty bottles, soiled clothes were removed from that spot and near it. Others including me clean up this place on a regular basis. The bums that are drunk and high take that as a sign to muck it up more. They are bums and addicts but they may not be homeless.

Hard to see but in the second picture, there are cigarette butts in the parking lot. While I am taking that picture, the woman by the car stands right in front of me, finishes smoking and throws her cigarette butt on the floor and walks in to the laundromat. She isn't homeless.

Do our elected officials really think tourists and people considering moving here see this and it is a selling point? We don't have the money to hire staff or the budget to clean the streets but we do have money to fund needles and non profit executive directors who make a living off taxpayers for years and can't get self sufficient?

The stench of feces, urine, dirty needles doesn't seem to bother EPIC or Baykeeper. No shake down lawsuit potential so it isn't an environmental concern.

All this affects business, quality of life, health, crime. Why should that be an issue for our elected officials? It isn't like we expect them to care about how the average person lives.  It isn't like they can add another tax when money runs out. Oh wait, that is what they do.

  1. "It isn't like they just can't add another tax when money runs out." Wanna bet? The filthy democrats will pick our pockets bare. Not because they mis-manage the money they already take.... which they do. Not because they spend it on people who create no wealth... which they already do. Not because they are so damn stupid.... which they are. It's because taking our money is what liberals like to do. It's theft... and they are addicted to the rush of stealing & the misguided satisfaction of bullying other people around.

    1. I agree with you. Fixed that sentence. I blame the RINOs too, locally and nationally.

  2. I was talking with a neighbor and he was talking about his landlord. Not a bad person, basically a good person, but the neighbor made the comment: "He's a member of a cult...not religious, political. He's a Democrat. He thinks only Democrats can fix things, they're the only ones with all the answers and if people would just support all their plans, how much better things would be.
This man served in the Navy, he's on SSI but he helps keep the area clean and puts peoples' trash cans out on Monday and brings them back on Tuesday (probably 5 neighbors).
He was raised in a basic, 2000+ year old church and doesn't really care about where people worship
but I can see where he'd call the Democrats a 'cult'. I know one family is Jewish, another SRF, several don't say, but when it comes to elections, the Democrats come to call. They make it easy. Hispanic? Our candidate has a Hispanic name. We'll help protect you. New neighbors, they find someone to stop by and share common views. A new mixed couple up the street (children are considered 'Black", well you know there's someone to come and preach the gospel of democratic protection and inclusion and whatever else works. Besides? What other choices do they have? Peace & Freedom? Socialist? American Independent?
They mean well, the neighbor says, seeing I've gotten his argument. They think they know what I want and need and since my family didn't, and friends didn't always, how can they? And what kind of a cult are they to tell me they'll look after my welfare. If I need something to believe in, why would I rely on other people? That's what God is for and He's stood by me.

I don't always agree with him but he made a lot of sense and I thought, I have to tell John about him. A small, common man who just doesn't want to be part of what he considers a cult.
He knows where to put his trust and it's in God, not a political organization.

  3. But, but, this is California, under Democrat control since Arnold, what could possibly need fixing?? Time and space limits the answers.
