It means we know that white privilege is a real phenomenon; it means they would be willing to take a secondary role and defer to black leadership.”

"However, while white allies are said to be appreciated, BLM believes whites should take a back seat and lend support to the black activists leading the charge."

"As Nekima Levy-Pounds, president of the Minneapolis chapter of the NAACP told the Star Tribune earlier this month, “It means we know that white privilege is a real phenomenon; it means they would be willing to take a secondary role and defer to black leadership.”

  1. John, what is your point with this post? Can you do something more than quote the article you're linking to? Some more editorializing would help your readers understand you.

    1. Anon, my point with this article is to get perspectives and responses of what my readers think about this interaction between BLM and Antifa.

    2. Ok. I'm interested in your reader's responses and perspectives as well. Hopefully some will speak up. It can be interesting to hear what people who are not impacted at all by extreme examples of behavior that occur in far away places have to say. Thanks for the response.

  2. Anon, we have had members who identify with one group or another protest locally. These issues affect us as a nation. Freedom of speech can be exercised peacefully. Having lived in various parts of the U.S. traveled over the world, I have observed sometimes the "oppressed" becomes the "oppressor" and when in power, people change.

  3. I read the article and since I don't know the website, I won't use it as a basis for talking about the groups.
I think there is some truth in what both groups say. That's the easy part, that's how politics and political movements work: Get people to agree with you on general points and gradually draw them in. Now, what groups are using as their main focus to draw people to them is white supremacy.
I've read history and I know what has been done to indigenous peoples.
I haven't seen a statement form BLM or Antifa.
so I'd like to reply to the subject you brought up by talking about something I have observed and have read statements from, and that is Renee Saucedo.
She has a letter to the editor of another journal and it's not all that different from other letters she's written.
And I'm going to address what I see in Ms Saucedo's rhetoric and diagnosis of what is wrong and what is needed/required.
She states FACTS. She has determined they are facts while most other people who are not making a career of being a rabble-rouser/organizer would probably call it a supposition.

The bottom line is no matter how much she may speak of "White supremacy" she has no proof that it actually exists in local peoples' actions. One person, or ten people may exhibit behavior which she decides is racist or white supremacist but where is the actual proof? And who appointed her?
She allows no sliding scale, no qualifications. She has already proclaimed herself prosecutor, judge and jury. If we're part of the white establishment
But you Renee, from what you've written I think you've made your mind up that you have the answers and people who don't agree with you, don't support your little crusades are racists or white supremacists.

No, Renee, you're not a martyr. You talk a lot, you write a lot and I don't see that you've really changed anything.
You've been involved with a lot of groups in the Bay Area, so why Humboldt County now?
I'm sure there are many counties with larger immigrant populations.
I'm using you as an object lesson because a quick search will bring up what you've done and what you've tried to do. http://www.keywiki.org/Renee_Saucedo

And stepping back, I think BLM and Antifa are probably very similar. They have agendas which are never quite public, there are lots of speeches, comments on websites and in newspapers.
It all comes down to the same thing:
I/We have judged the establishment and found it has failed us and we demand _________.

When I hear that I am hearing anger but not righteous anger, the anger of someone who is angry for a purpose but it's that person's purpose, not
the benefit of those that person claims to represent.
There are many people of good will in Humboldt and probably many more if you tempered your approach and tried to build relationships rather than just drawing a line.
You don't have to be a Christian to appreciate this message:

    "Matthew 7:3-5King James Version (KJV)

3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?

5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye."
