Motion to continue Kade Chandler's jury trial for alleged gross vehicular manslaughter denied

Judge John Feeney denied the defense motion to continue the jury trial for Kade Chandler. That was his tentative decision and his final decision. Judge Feeney found "no good cause to continue."

Not going to go into details of the oral arguments presented by attorneys in this post, unless the issue comes up again.

Robert Kade Chandler had a hearing scheduled on July 24 at 10:15 in Courtroom 5. It was continued to July 26 to be heard in the home court, at 8:30 a.m. by Judge John Feeney.

On July 24, Judge Christopher Wilson told the defense attorneys  that the "date was set on agreement" after the preliminary and that Judge Feeney had presided over the preliminary and was familiar with the case.

The defense had filed a motion to continue; the District Attorney's office filed an opposition to the continuance.

Mr. David Nims, who represents the families of the victims, also filed an opposition. Family members and friends of the victims were in court on July 24 as well as today.

The original incident occurred in February 2015 on Hwy 36. Chandler was 20 years old at that time. It resulted in the death of Savannah Kindred and Kendra Lewis and injury to Bradley Theumler.

Chandler is charged with Count 1 gross vehicular manslaughter, Count 2 gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and special allegation of great bodily injury.

Trial confirmation is scheduled for September 7. Jury trial is scheduled for October 16.

The case is being prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Roger Rees. Chandler is represented by Mr. Benjamin Okin and Mr. Manny Daskal.

The two women were members of the Blue Lake Rancheria Tribe.

  1. Chandler will be wise not to let this got to trial. He will get 10x's the time in prison if he goes to a jury trial. Best bet for this guy is a plea. But, if I were a family member of the girls I would not be agreeing to a plea.
