I seem to remember the classic definition chutzpah is that given by Leo Rosten: "that quality enshrined in a man who, having killed his mother and father, throws himself on the mercy of the court because he is an orphan."
So show compassion to a woman who was more concerned about getting someone to hide her stash than what actually happened...no, I don't think so.
I find it interesting that no one has come forward so far (from all the accounts I've read) to tell about what a great mother she was, how she put her kids first and encouraged them in school, sports, etc. Or what a good friend she was, things she had done for others that showed kindness or charity on her part.
I could see some people might say in her defense 'oh she wasn't that bad a mother, not like others' but that's no measure, to be better than others.
For those who support her, pray for her; don't expect others to turn away from the horror that was the deaths of two innocent girls.
It's not just people who know or know of her. There are strong laws for a reason and if you think it's too strong, then look at the website for Mothers Against Drunk Drivers:

  2. hi gabriele,
i like your comments that i've read here. they're been informative and written in a cohesive and frank fashion. even when i disagree w/you i like your comments. are you working in the legal field?
i have an aa degree as a paralegal. i worked for a defense lawyer and the best experience i had in that office was proofing and correcting an appellate brief for THE supreme court.

i quit that line of work when i started (- i'm not done yet after 40 yrs) becoming cynical, dispirited, angry and frustrated watching how the legal system "works".

i love words - it all comes down to semantics.

your comments "I find it interesting that no one has come forward...about what a great mother she was. Or what a good friend she was, things she had done for others that showed kindness or charity on her part...".

i read mr. chiv and kym kemp daily and usually several times daily.
    i comment all too frequently.
i do remember a woman talking about all the things you mentioned. She said ms. kitchen was the kind of friend who always brings a little something to others just because she like to make people happy.

ms kitchen could make me REALLY happy by pleading guilty to a serious felony and doing what she has earned, in my belief, when she drove away from that accident.
i usually have my scanner on 24/7 here. i'd been listening to my scanner when the kids were 1st reported as hit, and listened up until the time there was no more scanner traffic over it.
I remember kym kemp posting that she was very near vomiting this was so terrible and shocking. she seemed to know that mom might be the one who hit them. that really angered me, knowing how WRONG ms. kitchen was behaving that night.
her behavior has only gotten worse from there.

    anyway, enough.
    thanks! good fortune to you.
