$2,300 estimated damage for Arcata tree vandalism; suspect Kenyatta Jones arrested

On 05/13/17 at about 3:50 PM, officers from the Arcata Police Department were investigating the recent vandalism to multiple trees in the downtown area of Arcata.

Acting on recently obtained security footage from the Intermodal Transit Facility, the main bus station in Arcata, officers had identified a possible suspect, Kenyatta Jones, age 42 of Arcata.  Jones, who is known to officers in Arcata, was identified in security footage breaking the top off of a tree at the transit facility.
When contacted by officers, Jones admitted to breaking the tops off of four cherry trees on the Arcata Plaza, tearing the limbs off trees on the 800 block of Ninth St., and damaging trees at the transit facility.
The estimated total economic impact of the above vandalism is $2,300.
Jones was subsequently taken into custody for PC 594(b)(1) - Felony Vandalism.

Jones was transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility where he was booked on the above charge.

  1. What a worthless piece of shit. The judge needs to get this loser 1000 hrs of community service helping the parks and rec with gardening,maintenance, and whatever else "tree" related Arcata does

  2. 1000 hrs of community service from a piece of crap like this guy? I'm sure the "work" would be substandard. Plus, can you imagine the outcry from the libtards in Arcata? Maybe they should just give him an honorary degree from HSU, like they did with that dead crip.

    "(b) (1) If the amount of defacement, damage, or destruction is four hundred dollars ($400) or more, vandalism is punishable by imprisonment pursuant to subdivision (h) of Section 1170 or in a county jail not exceeding one year, or by a fine of not more than ten thousand dollars ($10,000), or if the amount of defacement, damage, or destruction is ten thousand dollars ($10,000) or more, by a fine of not more than fifty thousand dollars ($50,000), or by both that fine and imprisonment."

  4. If he enjoys destroying trees so much, put him to work at the sheriff's wood lot...with an ax to chop firewood. He can work chopping on trees all day long.
