It is never Marci's fault; it is the damn public and social media putting pressure on DA according to her lawyer, Ben Okin

In his motion requesting continued release on bail for Marci Kitchen, Mr. Benjamin Okin, takes a swipe at social media backlash being the only circumstance that has changed and why the District Attorney's office requested certain conditions on his clients's bail. And that the DA was acting out of this pressure.

It is your damn fault public for daring to question Marci Kitchen and it is the damn media's fault, especially me,  for doing our job. How dare we?

The answer to how Marci Kitchen flies standby, her mom, whose retirement plan, allows for travel for free on standby, according to Mr. Okin.

The file was not available until today.

Apparently Mr. Okin thinks that the special treatment his client has been getting and the fact that on social media and in the community, there is unanimous disdain for his client is our fault not his client's behavior or his; he and his client are infallible.

By his own admission in his motion, his client travelled five times, two being out of the country.

It seems that Mr. Okin thinks that while other inmates can be denied passes for funerals, his current client has the right to "party". He should name one other client that has been given a travel pass for a birthday party for a dating partner's grandmother.

No other defendant gets to enter the courtroom with her lawyer first while the rest of the public waits outside.

This lawyer is the same guy that got into a back and forth with CHP over facts initially about Kitchen's whereabouts and who knew what.

Mr. Okin has expressed a desire to possibly run for Judge in the future. I think the public should pay attention to the Kitchen case, Kade Chandler and other clients Mr. Okin represents to indicate what kind of judge he would make.

After a stint with the DA's office, Mr. Okin latched onto Russ Clanton ( of Kailan Meserve and Timothy Littlefield notoreity) then jumped over to latch onto Manny Daskal. He can sure talk a good game and get plea deals for clients like Hezekiah Allen. How many jury trials has Mr. Okin tried or won since he left the DA's office in Humboldt? Plea deals seem to be par for the course and dragging out cases while the victims' families suffer.

Lot of self made and talented lawyers in this town who represent their clients well without badmouthing all the other parties involved. They also occasionally represent clients who are not filthy rich. And they did not need to build their career off some other lawyer.

If Mr. Okin can use the judicial system to his clients' advantage, it is only fair that I too can use my inside knowledge of the courts  and certain lawyers to shine some light for the public to see why "justice" in a small town "works for some."

This case would never have received so much press if it had been handled properly by the defense from the beginning.

So if special treatment is okay with you, vote  for Mr. Okin if and when he runs for Judge.

    1. She did not go on vacation. she went to spend a birthday with an 86 year old woman whom loves her very much and might not be with us much longer. Has HC lost their hearts, kindness and compassion? I was always told what a lovely place it was. All is see is anger and hate. How unfortunate for the community and people that live there.

  4. John: While you are entitled to your viewpoint, I do not see why a personal attack on Mr. Okin or his character is warranted. As far as I know, and as far as you have reported, he has done nothing unethical. His job is to represent his client and seek the best outcome possible for her. It seems he is doing that here.

    1. Anon, I have reported what I have access to. Trying to get information on this case has been difficult. You may think it is a personal attack, I see it as enlightening the public on a pattern of conduct of someone who may consider being a Judge. And exposing the character of Humboldt Courts. You seem to have read my previous reports, obviously are intelligent. Do you really think that an indigent defendant without access to money and connections would be treated the same way?

  6. Also, anon @ 3:41 p.m., I have a feeling you are pretty aware of the little cabal of private lawyers that muscle their little clique and power and have made tons of money. Is that legal? Sure. Moral? Nope. Some lawyers charge a ton amd almost always plead out and others who fight harder regardless of dollars. But the hypocrites in this town only have a certain problem with certain people making money. Mediocrity and not playing fair in Humboldt is certainly not the norm but our paid media, elected leaders, left and right do not stand of for the People of this community. In Humboldt, stifling competition is the norm. Criminals, insiders, law enforcement know I call it as it is and so do you. You seem a bit too fixated on Mr. Okin trying to distract from the real issue. I started this blog as a resource for the community, long before the rest of the media jumped on the bandwagon. People who are exposed may not like my reporting, people who are in denial may not like my reporting but I don't do paid PR. The favoritism in this case is not the skill of Mr. Okin, it is small town politics and influence being used that deserves scrutiny.

  7. There are exceptions to the above statement about local politicians like Ryan, Rex, Marian.

  8. Olkin must have heard about Crime Watch. He is probably worried about how it will play out in the national media. Thank you for all you do John.

    1. Wouldn't hurt the national media to pay attention to more than Okin and the courts in Humboldt. Since our local paid media is too busy doing PR to actually investigate and report and stand up for this community.

  9. There wil not be a Judge election anytime soon as "strategic retirement" less than two months (in fact even the day before filing) takes the decision away from the voters and hands it to the Governor. The last vacancy (still vacant) went down that way and the next 1-2 in 2018 will as well. A very knowledgeable source told me that.

  10. said it before and I'll say it again-this publicity will force this trial(whenever???) to go out of County. Too much hype, talk, gossip, coverage to allow an impartial jury pool. Adios.
